India pace veteran and the swing king, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, recently opened up about coming back to the India jersey after a long 4-year gap. Notably, Bhuvi featured for India in the 1st T20I against New Zealand. He bowled his full quota of 4 overs and gave away 49 runs while remaining wicketless.
Nevertheless, his success with his IPL team RCB has been the biggest driver towards his national dream, as the bowler shared his heart out in a recent conversation with the BCCI.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar expects nothing from himself
Ahead of IND vs NZ 2nd T20I, Bhuvi revealed the secret spice that helped him drag along the lines in the last four years. Zero expectations from himself have been Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s mantra, with only working on oneself being the sole focus.
“Apni country ko represent karne se bada pride bahut hi kam hota hai. I am getting that again, so really happy. Jis headspace mein hu (usme) bahut simple hai, koi expectation nahi hai mujhe khud se. I think that’s how things worked out for me in the last 3-4 years. Koi expectation nahi hai, just keep doing your work," Bhuvneshwar said.
Notably, Bhuvi played the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Ranji Trophy too during his absence from international cricket.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar further revealed that the secret to his calm presence on the field is living in the present. The bowler deliberately tries to forget the past 3-4 years and wants to live in the present to cope with the maturity that has built inside him.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar credits RCB and IPL for mega India comeback
Speaking of his RCB journey and two back-to-back title wins after a long absence from cricket, Bhuvneshwar Kumar was emotional but expressed how he tried to stay on track with his fitness and skills despite zero expectations.
“I think the last 2 IPL seasons aise the jab mai IPL mei gaya toh zero expectations the, mujhe khud se bhi zero expectations the, but aisa nahi tha ki maine preparation nahi kari. Maine puri preparation kari, jo bhi cheez chahiye prepare karne ke liye" Bhuvi added.
“I think 4 saal I never chased this Indian jersey, toh vo 4 saal kab nikle mujhe pata bhi nahi chala. I have evolved big time, and mujhe lagta hai IPL ka bahut bada role hai usme," he added.
Crediting the role of the IPL in reviving his cricketing career, Bhuvneshwar appreciated his comeback. The cricketer last played UP T20 2026 before the New Zealand tour and picked up 14 wickets from 11 matches at an economy rate of 6.11. The bowler will next be seen in the India vs New Zealand 2nd T20I match on October 24.
