The Indian team has arrived in New Zealand for a five-match T20I series. It will be followed by 5 ODIs and two Tests. The major talking point has been Jasprit Bumrah’s absence. Notably, the right-arm seamer has been rested from both T20Is and ODIs.
The fans were angry with BCCI for sending him to Japan for the Asian Games and then resting the star bowler for key series like New Zealand. The debate divided the internet, and in the latest developments, former India bowling coach Bharat Arun, who has spent a considerable amount of time with the MI bowler, has opined on the matter.
Bharat Arun Defends Resting Jasprit Bumrah
Bharat Arun shrugged aside the criticism and remarked that the management is carefully managing Jasprit Bumrah, which is important for the MI star because of his unorthodox action.
"What makes you say there is no workload management for Bumrah? He is routinely rested so he can recoup," Arun said, stressing the importance of allowing the pace spearhead sufficient time to recover between assignments. We know the intense physical effort Bumrah puts into his action, making him prone to injuries if overworked," he said.
"The management is managing him properly to keep him at top-notch fitness for major events, while concurrently evaluating local and IPL performers to find the best team combination," Arun added.
BCCI Preserving Jasprit Bumrah For Border Gavaskar Trophy 2027
Jasprit Bumrah suffered a knee injury during the England tour, which ruled him out of Sri Lanka Tests. The star pacer regained full fitness ahead of Asian Games in Japan which raised eyebrows about his fitness.
Therefore, the BCCI is clear on their plans that they want Bumrah to just focus on red-ball cricket till the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. A Times of India report mentioned that Jasprit is fully fit but is being managed carefully.
The idea is to have Jasprit Bumrah fresh and ready for Border Gavaskar Trophy. The Indian team will host Australia for a five-match Test series starting from January 21, 2027.
Notably, Bumrah suffered a back injury during Sydney Test in the last BGT due to excessive workload. Hence, the management wants to avoid such scenario in the future.
