The Ranji Trophy has long provided a formidable platform for batters to showcase their class, temperament and endurance. Across its near century-old history, several remarkable innings have stood out for their sheer scale and enduring significance.

Here is a look at six of the highest individual scores recorded by batters in the history of Ranji Trophy cricket.

6. Tanmay Agarwal (Hyderabad) – 366 runs, 2024

Hyderabad veteran Tanmay Agarwal mounted 366 runs against Arunachal Pradesh in their Plate Group match of the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy Plate League back in January 2024. Opening the innings for Hyderabad, the cricketer shared a record 449-run partnership in just 40.2 overs with captain and fellow centurion Rahul Singh.

Tanmay himself launched 34 boundaries and 26 scorching sixes in Hyderabad from just 181 deliveries to score his runs at a staggering strike rate of 202.20. Recording one of the fastest-ever triple centuries in first-class history, Tanmay Agarwal’s epic also stands as one of the highest individual scores ever recorded in Ranji Trophy cricket.

5. Maturi Sridhar (Hyderabad) – 366 runs, 1994

Former Hyderabad cricketer Maturi Sridhar also belted 366 runs, albeit off 523 balls in Secunderabad way back in January 1994 during the 1993-94 Ranji Trophy season. Batting at number three, the right-handed batter clattered 37 boundaries and five huge sixes, and his innings catapulted the Hyderabad total to 944-6d in 211 overs.

The match, however, ended up with a drawn result but Hyderabad took home the two points courtesy of their monumental first innings lead.

4. Sanjay Manjrekar (Bombay) – 377 runs, 1991

Bombay (now Mumbai) mounted 855-6d in just 176 overs against Hyderabad in the semifinal of the 1990-91 Ranji Trophy season back in April 1991. Captain and number three batter Sanjay Manjrekar himself charted 377 runs off just 473 balls with 50 boundaries and five sixes at the Wankhede Stadium.

The innings not only marked Manjrekar’s magnum opus first-class score, but also stood as the second highest individual score ever recorded in a Ranji Trophy game at the time.

3. Prithvi Shaw (Mumbai) – 379 runs, 2023

In a bid to force his way back into India’s Test squad, forgotten Indian opener and Mumbai run machine Prithvi Shaw plundered 379 runs off just 383 deliveries against Assam in their Elite Group B match of the 2022-23 Ranji Trophy season.

Opening the innings for Mumbai in Guwahati, Shaw whacked 49 boundaries and four huge sixes before getting trapped in front by Assam spinner Riyan Parag. His innings set up path of a monumental innings victory for Mumbai after they had mounted 687-4d in just 138.4 overs.

2. Chinmay Sutar (Mizoram) – 400* runs, 2026

In the Plate Group match of the 2026-27 Ranji Trophy season in October 2026 at the Nagaland Cricket Stadium in Sovima, Mizoram’s number three batter Chinmay Sutar belted 400* runs off just 517 balls against hosts Nagaland.

The cricketer unleashed 46 boundaries and seven sixes in his multi-hour unbeaten epic and maintained an astonishing batting strike rate of 77.36. Notably, the match marked Sutar’s only second first-class appearance, considering he made his format debut just earlier in the month in Nadiad.

With his innings, Chinmay Sutar became only the second cricketer to score a quadruple century in Ranji Trophy history. Sutar’s aggregate also accounted for nearly 70 percent of Mizoram’s total as they declared at 581-9d in 154.1 overs.

1. Bhausaheb Babasaheb Nimbalkar (Maharashtra) – 443* runs, 1948

In the opening round of the 1948-49 Ranji Trophy season, Maharashtra number three Bhausaheb Nimbalkar motored his way to a scorching 443* with 49 boundaries and a huge six against Kathiawar bowlers at the Poona Club Ground in Pune.

Nearly 80 years into his record-shattering knock, Nimbalkar’s unbeaten epic remains Ranji Trophy’s highest individual score.
