On Tuesday, July 28, a massive development took place in Indian cricket as Ryan ten Doeschate and T Dilip left their positions. The two veterans have left Gautam Gambhir’s coaching staff and won’t be part of India’s upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka.
Notably, Ryan ten Doeschate joined the team when Gautam Gambhir was roped in as India’s head coach in July 2024. Meanwhile, T Dilip joined the side in 2021 and served the Men in Blue for five years.
There were reports that Gautam Gambhir’s personnel resigned from their position, but in the latest developments, the BCCI has cleared the air.
BCCI Reveals Details Of Ryan ten Doeschate, T Dilip’s Removal
Speaking to PTI, Devajit Saikia, BCCI secretary, revealed the details and stated that Ryan ten Doeschate and T Dilip were removed and didn’t resign from their positions. Saikia stated that the two coaches ran out of contract and the board didn’t renew their tenure.
"Assistant Ryan ten Doeschate's two-year contract with the Indian men's team ended on June 10. Fielding coach T Dilip, who was given a one-year extension, also had his contract end on June 8. They continued till the end of India's tour of the United Kingdom. However, the BCCI is not giving them any extension," Devajit Saikia said speaking to PTI.
"There is no question of accepting resignation as the contract has ended. We are currently in talks with two to three names and expect to finalise the details within a day or two. India will have a new fielding coach for the tour of Sri Lanka," he added.
Ryan ten Doeschate Joins KKR, T Dilip Replaced
Ryan ten Doeschate has previously worked with Gautam Gambhir in KKR, which is why the former India opener wanted him to be India’s assistant coach. Ryan joined the Indian side in July 2024. Interestingly, a white-ball series against Sri Lanka was his first assignment.
At present, Ten Doeschate has joined KKR as their assistant coach for IPL 2027. One of the reports mentioned that the former Netherlands star himself was not much interested in renewing the contract, as he wants to spend more time with his family.

T Dilip, on the other hand, joined the Indian set-up when Rahul Dravid was roped in as the head coach in 2021. Dilip rose to fame for his medal idea during the 2023 ODI World Cup. Dilip’s contract ran until 2025, but he was given a year-long extension, which ended on June 8.
The BCCI has already identified T Dilip’s replacement. Subhadeep Ghosh will reportedly be the new fielding coach from the upcoming Sri Lanka series. Meanwhile, the hunt for a new assistant coach is still on.
Why Did BCCI Remove Ryan ten Doeschate And T Dilip?
Ryan ten Doeschate’s role wasn’t defined as such, and it seemed as if he was underutilised. The former Netherlands star could have been a great fielding coach, but his work as an assistant coach didn’t create much of an impact.
Meanwhile, T Dilip’s removal could be due to the poor fielding standards by the Indian team recently. It is vital to note that India dropped 11 catches during the tour of England and another 10 during the Zimbabwe tour.
