BCCI Identifies Jasprit Bumrah's Replacement In India ODI Squad From IPL

Jasprit Bumrah has been one of the most prized possessions of the Indian bowling setup, be it white-ball or red-ball cricket. His workload management has been a concern since the 2025 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Now, being one of the rare all-format bowlers, Bumrah has been speculated to be rested and play either only the one-off Test against Afghanistan or the three-match ODI series against the same team in the month of June.

However, as per moneycontrol.com, with Jasprit Bumrah sitting out, Delhi's speedster and Lucknow Super Giants gem Prince Yadav is now primed by the BCCI to be Bumrah's replacement in the Afghanistan series.

Jasprit Bumrah’s Workload To Give Prine Yadav National Call-Up?

IPL 2026 is set to conclude on May 31. Given Bumrah's workload, he is expected to sit out either of these red-ball or white-ball matches. Hence, Prince Yadav's inclusion might be a solid replacement for Bumrah, given his 140+ clicks as a right-arm pacer and impressive performances in IPL 2026.

Yadav And Bumrah’s Form So Far

Prince Yadav has had a healthy economy rate of 8.53 this season as he has been able to dismantle batters in the powerplay as well. He boasts 16 wickets in IPL 2026 from 12 matches while having a strike rate of 16.00.

Although his last two outings weren't impressive, he has had two 3-wicket hauls in the tournament so far while delivering impactful spells that made his team win matches.

Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah's IPL 2026 was a nightmare. The premium Indian pacer had his worst IPL season so far since 2016 as he took only three wickets from the 12 matches he played while having an expensive economy rate of 8.53 and a worse strike rate of 90.0.

Prince To Replace Bumrah In White-Ball Or Red-Ball Matches?

This poor performance in white-ball cricket might push the BCCI management to think that Bumrah should be better off playing the Test match against Afghanistan, which starts from June 6.

If that is the case, Prince Yadav might be likely to get his national call-up for the ODI side, which would likely see Harshit Rana miss out as he has been injured ahead of IPL 2026.

If the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee is not going to experiment with the red-ball format squad, Bumrah is set to feature in it, and if by any chance Bumrah misses the one-off Test, he would be playing the ODI series, which might further restrict Yadav's chances for a national call-up.

ODI Series Only Ray Of Hope For Yadav

In case Jasprit Bumrah doesn't play, the red-ball side is likely to be headlined by Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna, and it might see Jammu and Kashmir's talent Auqib Nabi also in the frontline.

Nevertheless, chances of experiments and permutations and combinations are quite low, with the ODI series being the only ray of hope for Prince Yadav to make it to the national side.
