IPL 2026 Schedule - (Source: X.com)
The IPL 2026 is less than a month away, but the fans still await the official schedule for the cash-studded league. History suggests that the BCCI doesn’t take this long for the fixtures, but this time around its different. Notably, the no.1 T20 league is all set to begin from March 28 or 29 and the final on May 31.
In a significant development, a report from InsideSports revealed that the BCCI is likely to release the schedule after the T20 World Cup 2026 semi-finals. The two important clashes will take place on March 4 and 5. Therefore, the fixtures are expected on Friday or Saturday.
Why Have The BCCI Not Revealed IPL 2026 Schedule?
Notably, the apex cricket board of India is waiting for the Election Commission of India (ECI) to release the election schedule for four states - West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam, and Kerala. Notably, three teams - Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Rajasthan Royals will be affected by the elections, which is why the board is waiting for ECI’s notification before releasing IPL’s schedule.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia too revealed that the fixtures will be made public soon and the board will wait for a couple more days for the ECI to announce elections dates.
Devajit Saikia Speaks On Delayed Schedule
“Please wait for two to three days for the IPL schedule. We will release it as soon as possible. We know that it is getting late because elections are being held in three or four states, such as Assam, Bengal and Tamil Nadu. We are waiting for the announcement from the election authorities. We have to take a call in a day or two. After that, we will inform you how we are going forward with the IPL,” Devajit Saikia remarked while speaking to Times of India and as quoted by InsideSports.
Earlier, there were reports that in case ECI does not unveil the election dates, then the BCCI will release fixtures for the first leg.
Why Did IPL 2026 Get postponed?
There are reports that IPL 2026 might be delayed by a couple of days. Notably, the cash-studded league was set to begin from March 26, but now it will start on March 28. Notably, during the IPL 2026 mega-auction, the board had confirmed that IPL 2026 will take place from March 26 (Thursday) to May 31 (Saturday).
There is no official update from the board, but the decision is likely due to upcoming elections and the festival. For the unversed, Ram Navami is on Thursday, March 26, and the entire nation will celebrate the festival, which could be a major reason that the apex cricket board of India thought of pushing the league by a couple of days.
Also, as mentioned above, the upcoming state elections could be a reason behind postponing IPL 2026.
