The brutal rape and murder of eight-year-old Ramisa Akter in Dhaka’s Pallabi area has united the Bangladesh cricket community in grief and outrage. The second-grade student was allegedly attacked and killed by her neighbour, Sohel Rana.
As the heartbreaking news spread, national team captains, senior players, and the Bangladesh Cricket Board took to social media to express their shock, share their pain, and demand swift and exemplary punishment.
The Horrific Crime That Shook Bangladesh
Ramisa Akter, a class two student, lived with her family in Pallabi, a busy neighbourhood in the capital city. According to reports, she was lured or taken by her neighbour, Sohel Rana, who allegedly raped and then murdered her.
Around 10:30 AM, eight-year-old Ramisa was preparing to leave for school with her elder sister when she suddenly went missing.
The search took a horrifying turn after Ramisa’s mother spotted one of the child’s shoes placed outside neighbour Sohel Rana’s apartment.
When Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrived at the scene, they discovered Ramisa’s decapitated body hidden under a bed, while her severed head was concealed inside a bucket in the bathroom toilet.
The details of the crime have sent waves of grief and anger across Bangladesh as protests have been held and social media is flooded with demands for the harshest punishment for the culprit.

The Bangladesh cricket team is the most followed and influential voices in the country. Within hours of the news breaking, several star cricketers used their official Facebook pages to share their heartbreak and call for action.
Najmul Hossain Shanto Leads Cry For Justice
Bangladesh Test captain Najmul Hossain Shanto posted a sketch of young Ramisa on his verified Facebook page. His message was filled with sorrow and a deep desire for change.
“We want a society where every child can smile safely, not in fear, and grow up with dreams. No other Ramisa’s life should end like this. May Allah grant her paradise, and may the culprits receive punishment that sets an example for society.”
T20I captain Litton Das, himself a father of a young daughter, expressed how deeply personal the tragedy felt. His statement went beyond a captain’s duty to that of a worried parent.
“As a parent of a daughter, hearing the news about Ramisa is deeply disturbing and heartbreaking. This cannot be tolerated in any society.
We all deserve a safer world for our children, where they can grow without fear. Anything wrong that happens deserves proper justice – and in the case of Ramisa, justice must be delivered without delay.
As we stand together demanding justice for Ramisa, let us also say it loudly and clearly: crimes like this deserve the harshest punishment. We do not want to witness another tragedy like this ever again,” Das wrote.
Litton’s statement highlights the vulnerability that parents everywhere feel. He framed the demand not just as a legal necessity but as a moral emergency, urging everyone to speak up against such violence.
Mushfiqur Rahim Raises Voice On Social Media
Veteran wicketkeeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim, one of the most respected figures in Bangladesh cricket, shared his anguish on social media.
“Totally shocked by the news this morning. Young Ramisa deserved safety, love, and protection… not such horrific cruelty.
