Amid the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2026), the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to take serious measures outlined in an eight-page Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) document.

These SOPs put in by the BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia are considered as a directive to reinforce discipline and security awareness, by writing to the all ten franchise owners.

It is understood that the IPL governing body is not happy with the girlfriend culture transpiring off the field, which may lead to honey trapping. Moreover, the board has imposed stricter sanctions following the infamous Riyan Parag vaping row

But apart from the players and match officials, the BCCI has also brought in rules that all franchise owners must adhere to.

BCCI reprimands IPL owners for hugging players

On Thursday, the BCCI issued an eight-page directive to abide by strict code of conduct guidelines for the players & support staff as well as for the team owners.

"The BCCI has noted with concern that certain IPL franchise owners have not adhered to the Players and Match Officials Access (PMOA) protocol during the course of the matches," Devajit Saikia wrote to all CEOs of 10 IPL franchises, as quoted by PTI.

In the newly adhered groundbreaking SOPs, the board has asked the IPL franchise owners not to engage with players "physically", including hugging, during live match situations.

"Specifically instances have been observed of IPL franchises owners attempting to communicate with, approach, hug, or otherwise physically interact with players during live match situations. Such conduct however well-intentioned, directly contravenes established protocol and may constitute interference with team dynamics and match proceedings," the document added.

BCCI warns players of honey trapping

"The BCCI / IPL Operations Team may conduct periodic checks to assess adherence to the directives set forth in this Advisory. Team Managers are required to maintain records of all approved guest visits and hotel movements," the official BCCI warning stated.
