Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news that emerged out of Tuesday, February 10.
Jamie Overton called back in England XI for WI match
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has named England’s playing XI for the upcoming Group C match of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup against West Indies. The two teams will be squaring off on February 11 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
The ECB confirmed that CSK star and Surrey all-rounder Jamie Overton will be replacing fast bowler Luke Wood in the XI. Harry Brook is set to continue as captain as England aims to sustain its winning momentum after defeating Nepal in a nail-biter.
Delhi Capitals appoint Ian Bell as coach for IPL 2026
The Delhi Capitals franchise has roped in Ian Bell as an assistant coach for the upcoming IPL 2026 season. The 43-year-old will be working alongside head coach Hemang Badani and fellow assistant coach Matthew Mott. Moreover, Ian Bell will also be joining ex-national teammate and former England captain Kevin Pietersen in the Capitals coaching set-up, considering the latter is serving the franchise as its mentor.
Last year, the Delhi Capitals team narrowly missed making it to the playoffs of IPL 2025, falling fifth on the 10-team points table with seven wins and six defeats from 14 matches.
Finn Allen and Tim Seifert shatter T20 World Cup records
New Zealand openers Finn Allen and Tim Seifert conjured an unbeaten 175-run partnership from just 15.2 overs to blank UAE in match number 11 of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Chasing 174 for a win, the ‘Black Caps’ stormed past the UAE with nearly five overs to spare to make it two wins in two matches this tournament.
The partnership between Allen and Siefert also marked the highest in the history of T20 World Cups for any wicket, bettering Alex Hales and Jos Buttler’s previous effort of 170* against India in the 2022 edition of the tournament.
Wanindu Hasaranga ruled out of T20 World Cup 2026, replacement named
Wanindu Hasaranga has been ruled out of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup owing to a hamstring injury he suffered in Sri Lanka’s opening match against Ireland. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has now named fellow spin-bowling allrounder Dushan Hemantha as Hasaranga’s replacement for the tournament.
Despite suffering a hamstring injury, Wanindu Hasaranga picked up three wickets against Ireland to claim figures of 3-25 in his four overs. Sri Lanka ended up winning the match by 20 runs at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
Sahibzada Farhan completes 1,000 runs in T20Is for Pakistan
Pakistan opener Sahibzada Farhan punched out 73 runs from just 41 balls against USA in match number 12 of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Turning up at the SSC Ground in Colombo, the cricketer shared an attacking 81-run partnership with senior pro Babar Azam as Pakistan mounted 190-9 in 20 overs.
The innings also helped Sahibzada Farhan complete 1,000 runs in T20I cricket, becoming the tenth Pakistani cricketer to do so. His current tally reads 1,042 runs in 41 innings at an average of 26.05 and a strike rate of 132.23.
