In an unexpected development, a former Indian all-rounder, who was a part of India’s 2011 World Cup-winning team, has made headlines for the wrong reasons as his relatives got into a big dispute.
In today’s day and age, even the smallest of disputes make headlines, and when a cricket star is involved, the news tends to get traction much more than usual.
Yusuf Pathan’s in-laws get into trouble
Meanwhile, the former Indian cricketer here in question is Yusuf Pathan. According to reports, his in-laws got into a big road rage dispute that escalated into a violent assault case.
It began when a man named Yusuf Khan accidentally splashed water from a roadside puddle onto Shoaib Khan while driving through Byculla. Although Yusuf Khan reportedly stopped and apologised, the situation quickly turned into an argument.
Police say Shoaib became aggressive, used abusive language, damaged the car’s windshield with a bamboo stick, and physically assaulted him.
The situation didn’t end there. Later, when Yusuf Khan and his family were heading to file a police complaint, they encountered more individuals linked to Pathan’s family, including his father-in-law Khalid Khan.

A small fight turned into physical violence
What followed was a second, more serious confrontation, where the group allegedly attacked Yusuf Khan and his relatives using bamboo sticks and baseball bats. This resulted in injuries, including a fractured arm and other serious harm.
Based on CCTV footage, witness statements, and recovered weapons, police arrested three people, including Yusuf Pathan’s father-in-law and brother-in-law, while another accused is still being traced.
A case has been registered under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deal with assault, causing hurt, use of weapons, and unlawful violence. It's important to note that Yusuf Pathan is yet to react to this development.
Neither Pathan nor did his family have issued a public statement here. However, the all-rounder is expected to support his family in these tough times.
Who is Yusuf Pathan married to?
That being said, India’s 2011 World Cup-winning player Yusuf Pathan married Afreen Khan in 2013. Afreen was reportedly working as a physiotherapist when she met Yusuf Pathan in Vadodara, where his domestic cricket journey was based.
Their relationship grew from that professional connection into a personal one, eventually leading to marriage in 2013 through a private nikah ceremony. The couple are blessed with two children.
Yusuf Pathan, meanwhile, won two World Cups for India. He played 57 ODIs and 22 T20Is, scoring 1000+ runs combined. He eventually retired from cricket in 2021 and later stepped into politics.
He is currently associated with the Trinamool Congress Party as an MP led by Bengal CM Mamta Banerjee. Yusuf Pathan contested elections in 2024 and won the Baharampur Lok Sabha constituency.
