On Tuesday, May 19, India released their 15-man squad for the Afghanistan Test and ODI series. For the unversed, the Shubman Gill-led side will start with a one-off Test, and then feature in a three-match ODI series.
As soon as the squad was made public, the internet went into a frenzy as there were several deserving names that missed out and vice-versa. This article will focus on the ODI squad, becuase the IPL is going on, and the league would have certainly influenced the selectors.

Gujarat Titans - 4
Gujarat Titans have the most players selected for the upcoming ODI series (4). GT captain and India captain Shubman Gill will lead the pack against Afghanistan. Rest, Washington Sundar too has been fantastic with the bat and was unlucky to be ruled out of the New Zealand ODIs because of injury.

Prasidh Krishna is the sole bowler from the Gujarat Titans who will represent India. Interestingly, Gurnoor Brar, who is yet to debut for the Gujarat Titans in IPL, has earned his maiden India call-up.
Sunrisers Hyderabad - 3
Sunrisers Hyderabad are next on the list, with their 3 players getting selected for the ODI series. Ishan Kishan returns with a bang after his SMAT, T20 World Cup 2026 and IPL 2026 heroics. Further, Nitish Kumar Reddy continues to be in the ODI set-up as Hardik Pandya is there, but is subject to fitness.
The interesting choice here is Harsh Dubey. The SRH spinner, who has 8 wickets in IPL 2026, has also earned his maiden India call-up.
Mumbai Indians - 2
Mumbai Indians have Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya picked up for the ODI squad, but interestingly, both players are subject to fitness. Notably, the hitman is struggling with a hamstring, while Hardik Pandya has a back spasm.
Delhi Capitals - 2
Delhi Capitals stars KL Rahul and Kuldeep Yadav have been picked up for Afghanistan ODIs. KL Rahul has done brilliantly for the Capitals, while Kuldeep is struggling, and he has a lot to prove in the upcoming series.
Punjab Kings - 2
Arshdeep Singh will feature for India, while Shreyas Iyer will serve as India vice-captain. Notably, the PBKS captain has been named as Shubman Gill’s deputy.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru - 1
RCB have just one player, who is Virat Kohli, who has been picked up and named in the India squad.
Lucknow Super Giants - 1
From LSG, speedster Prince Yadav, who made the news after getting Virat Kohli’s wicket, has earned his maiden India call-up.
Notably, CSK, KKR, and RR are the three teams to have no players selected for India.
