Ireland were ruthless. Oman were unlucky. Cricket is as dramatic as always. Shakeel Ahmed is still a bright spot - 3/33, respect where due. But Tuckerâs reprieve became the matchâs villain origin story. Lesson of the night? Never relax. Never assume. And never underestimate cricketâs ability to ruin your emotional stability. What a game. What a sport!!!
Until then, I am Dev Rajawat, signing off, along with my co-commentators, Deepak Prakash, Pritam Dey, scorer Bishal Mandal, and statistician Aman. Thatâs it from our side. Thanks for joining. But there are two more games scheduled in the T20 World Cup. Switch tabs, follow the fun. Goodbye from this tab! TAKE CARE! BREATHE AND SMILE! CIAO!!!!
Lorcan Tucker (Ireland Captain): "Yeah, the previous game wasnât one of our best days. Things didnât quite go our way, but it was great to bounce back and play with real positivity today.
(On discussion after the loss of previous game) Yeah, we knew they were a strong side. Weâve played them before and havenât always come out on top â theyâre very competitive. Itâs important to respect the opposition. I thought they bowled really well in the powerplay and through the first 10 overs. Our focus was to stay in the game and give ourselves a platform to finish strongly in the first innings.
(Was batting first a blessing in disguise?) We had discussed batting first. Overall, the pitch looked pretty good, and we were comfortable doing either. In the end, though, it worked out nicely for us to bat first.
(Morale of the team after this win?) I think itâs massive. We needed to come here, win today, and put in a strong performance. Weâre not out of the competition yet â we just need a few results to go our way. A boost to our run rate definitely wonât hurt either."
Jatinder Singh (Oman Captain): (On choosing to bowl first) âWell, since it was a new track, we felt bowling first was the right option. We didnât really know how the pitch would behave, and in the previous game, we were put in after losing the toss. So this time, the idea was to take control and assess conditions with the ball.
(On the strong start with spin) I think our spinners did quite well initially, and we were very much in the game after picking up four wickets. At that stage, we felt we had momentum. But credit to Tucker - the way he built that partnership with Delany was a masterclass. We tried to execute our plans, but unfortunately, we couldnât sustain the pressure.
(On the turning point in the innings) After those early wickets, they managed to settle and take the game away from us through that partnership. That phase really shifted the balance. We had our chances, but at this level, small lapses can cost you heavily.
(On the daunting chase of 235) The message to the batters was very simple - you canât approach a target like 235 defensively. You have to go out there with intent and play your strokes. But we ended up losing too many wickets in a short span, which made things very difficult for us.
(On where the chase slipped away) I think we were still in the contest for the first ten overs. The required rate was high, but manageable with wickets in hand. However, once we lost wickets quickly, we lost our grip on the game and couldnât recover.
(On mindset after the defeat) We just have to keep our heads up. This is part of the learning curve for us. As a side, we do lack experience and exposure compared to the bigger teams, and the only way to improve is by playing more matches at this level.
(On looking ahead) Every game is an opportunity to learn and grow. Weâll regroup, work on the areas we need to improve, and come back stronger in the next match.â
Lorcan Tucker (POTM): "(Conditions?) Yeah, it felt like we had a mixed powerplay. We hit a lot of boundaries but probably lost a few more wickets than we had planned. Still, we were trying to keep the momentum going. The pitch felt good, the outfield was quick, and we looked to capitalise whenever we could.
(On his role in the side) Yeah, I think itâs probably a bit tougher than batting at the start. Thereâs a bit more responsibility, especially if we lose wickets early. But itâs something Iâve grown into and become more comfortable with, particularly batting against spin in the middle overs. Iâve put a lot of work into that area, and thankfully it paid off today.
(On talk out in the middle against the spinners?) I think it was about maintaining our tempo throughout and not slipping into a rut. We tried to rotate the strike as much as possible, and whenever they bowled a bad ball, we made sure to capitalise on it.
(On a lot of boundaries that came against seamers at the tail end) Yeah, I think it was really good. We managed to set up the innings nicely, got through what was probably a tricky middle phase, and gave ourselves a strong platform to finish well. George and Gareth then played brilliantly towards the end to close it out."
