Smashing a half-century or 50+ score is considered one of the major benchmarks of a batter’s success in IPL. The fast-paced, modern-day T20 format of the league demands that the batters be more aggressive and attacking from the first ball of the game. 

There have been a couple of batters in the IPL history who have showcased their batting prowess and achieved various milestones across the 18 seasons of the tournament in its 19-year-long journey since the inaugural season in 2008.

5 Players with most half-centuries in IPL history 

Virat Kohli - 63 

Former RCB skipper and the modern-day batting great, Virat Kohli, is undoubtedly the most successful batter of all time in IPL history, given his amazing numbers and achievements in the league’s journey so far. Kohli has scored 8,661 runs in 259 innings of his 267 games, at an average of 39.54. 

Notably, the 37-year-old batting maestro has smashed eight centuries and 63 half-centuries in the IPL. In terms of the half-centuries, Kohli is leading the list of batters with the most half-centuries in the tournament’s history. 

David Warner - 62 

The former SRH IPL-winning skipper, David Warner, played for two franchises throughout his 15-year IPL career from 2009 to 2014. He aggregated 6,565 runs in 185 innings at an average of 4,697 and a strike rate of 139.77. 

Speaking of the 50s and 100s, Warner scored four centuries and 62 half-centuries. He ranks second in this list of the batters with the highest number of half-centuries to their name in the league’s entire history. 

Shikhar Dhawan - 51 

The former veteran opener, Shikhar Dhawan, was one of the players who played for five or more franchises in their IPL career. Dhawan represented Deccan Chargers Hyderabad, Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings, and the Sunrisers Hyderabad in his 16-year career. 

In his 222 games, Dhawan batted in 221 innings, scoring 6,769 runs at an average of 35.25, hitting two centuries and 51 half-centuries. Having 51 fifties, Dhawan is placed at the third spot among the batters with the most fifties in the tournament’s history. 

Rohit Sharma - 47 

MI’s former five-time title-winning skipper, Rohit Sharma, has also established himself as one of the all-time batting greats in the league. He is currently the second leading run-scorer of all time, with 7,046 runs in 267 innings, hitting two centuries and 47 half-centuries. 

He has played a vital role in a lot of wins for the Mumbai Indians with his fifties and 50+ scores. With 47 half-centuries, Rohit is fourth in the list of batters who have scored the most half-centuries in the tournament. 

KL Rahul - 40

The veteran batter, KL Rahul, has featured for six different teams since his debut in 2013. In his 13-season career, he has accumulated 5,222 runs in 136 innings at an amazing average of 46.21 and a strike rate of 136.02. 

KL Rahul has also registered five centuries and 40 half-centuries. The 33-year-old is placed at fourth spot among the batters with most centuries, alongside being fifth in the list of the most half-centuries in IPL history.
