The Indian Premier League (IPL) has produced unlimited nail-biters since its inception in 2008. On top of that, over the years, India’s premier T20 tournament has also seen as many as 16 Super Over finishes, which turned tied matches into instant masterpieces.

From the first thriller between Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals back in 2009 to the 2026 clash between Lucknow Super Giants and Kolkata Knight Riders, the T20 league has repeatedly delivered high-pressure drama.

However, the IPL 2020 remains the craziest season with four super overs, the most in a solitary edition.

Rinku Singh’s heroics win a dramatic Super Over for LSG in IPL 2026

A thrilling Sunday doubleheader brought major drama in the IPL 2026. It was a night of high drama in Lucknow as Kolkata Knight Riders pulled off a remarkable Super Over victory against the home side, Lucknow Super Giants.

After both teams finished tied on 155 in the regular match, a one-over clash was contested to determine the result of the game.

In the Super Over, veteran KKR bowler Sunil Narine produced a match-winning spell of precision. He dismissed Nicholas Pooran on the first ball and then Aiden Markram soon after, restricting LSG to just 1 for 2, the lowest Super Over score in IPL history.

Rinku Singh, who had earlier changed the narrative late in the first innings of KKR, with his unbeaten 83 off 51 balls, completed the job immediately in the super over. His overall contribution, including four catches in the field, made it a complete all-round performance.

In the context, take a look at the list of all super overs in the IPL until 2026.

Who played the first Super Over in IPL?

The first super over in the IPL was contested between KKR and RR on April 23, 2009, in Cape Town. In the 10th match of the 2009 IPL season, Rajasthan Royals won the inaugural Super Over, after both teams scored 150 runs in their 20 overs.

The Knight Riders were restricted to 11/1 by RR's Kamran Khan, and the Royals chased the target with Yusuf Pathan hitting 18 runs off Ajantha Mendis.

It is worth noting that, looking back at the match, Kolkata looked stronger both times, but Rajasthan pulled it back with their immense fighting qualities.

Which IPL match had a double Super Over?

The only IPL match to feature a double Super Over was between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in the 2020 season. Played on October 18, 2020, in Dubai, both teams tied at 176 runs, then tied the first super over at 5 runs each, requiring a second one-over clash to determine the win.

In their third innings, MI posted 11/1 in the second super over. KXIP chased within four deliveries as Chris Gayle hit a six off the opening ball, followed by two boundaries from Mayank Agarwal to secure victory.
