Mominul Haque has become the latest Bangladeshi batter to complete 5,000 runs in Test cricket. The elegant top-order batter achieved the landmark figure during Bangladesh’s series-opening first Test against the visiting Pakistanis in Mirpur on May 11.
With Mominul joining some of the greats of Bangladesh cricket, here is a look at the nation’s five leading run-makers in Test match history.
5. Litton Das – 3,150 runs
Attacking Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das has aggregated 3,150 runs in 91 innings spanning 53 Tests. The cricketer holds a healthy batting average of 35.39, and holds a staggering strike rate of nearly 60. Das remains one of Bangladesh’s most successful wicketkeeper-batters of all time. The 141 he composed against Sri Lanka in Mirpur back in May 2022 remains his magnum opus Test batting performance.
4. Shakib Al Hasan – 4,609 runs
Legendary all-rounder and former captain Shakib Al Hasan made 4,609 runs in 71 Test matches for Bangladesh. The blistering left-handed middle-order batter scored his runs at an average of 37.77 and held a strike rate of 61.67, the highest among all Bangladesh batters with more than 1,500 runs to their names.
He is also one of the rare Bangladeshi batters to have notched up a double hundred in Tests, and has so far charted five tons in his career to go along with 31 fifties. With the ball, Shakib has clipped 246 wickets in the format to remain one of Bangladesh’s greatest all-rounders of all time.
3. Mominul Haque – 5,006 runs
Mominul Haque became only the third Bangladeshi batter in history to complete 5,000 runs in Tests. The cricketer achieved the feat owing to his twin fifties against Pakistan in Mirpur in the series-opening first Test in May 2026.
Currently sitting on a pile of 5,006 runs in 141 innings, the left-handed batter maintains a healthy batting average of 38.21 and a strike rate of 54.16. He is also Bangladesh’s joint-highest century maker with 13 tons and 27 half-centuries. The 181 he slapped against New Zealand in Chattogram in his maiden year remains his highest Test score.
2. Tamim Iqbal – 5,134 runs
Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal minted 5,134 runs in his 70-match glorious Test career. He held an exceptional batting average of 38.89 and scored his runs at a healthy strike rate of nearly 58. With 10 hundreds and 31 fifties, Tamim has charted 41 scores of 50 or more in his 134 innings.
Tamim Iqbal’s highest Test score of 206 is also the third highest individual score notched up by any Bangladeshi batter in history. The elegant left-hander achieved the same during a home Test match against Pakistan in Khulna back in April 2015.
1. Mushfiqur Rahim – 6,597 runs
Seasoned pro Mushfiqur Rahim continues to remain Bangladesh’s most proficient run-maker in Test cricket. Aged 39 at the moment, the legendary wicketkeeper-batter has composed 6,597 runs in 101 Tests for Bangladesh since his debut year of 2005.
Rahim is Bangladesh’s joint-highest century-maker alongside Mominul Haque, and has crossed the 50-run mark in Tests the most number of times (42) among any batter from his country. His batting average of 39.03 also marks the highest among all Bangladeshi players with more than 200 runs to their names, let alone 6,000.
