The batting dynamics in IPL have changed completely in the almost 19-year span across 18 editions since its inception in 2008. In the last couple of IPL seasons, there have been many high-scoring games with 400+ aggregates, compared to the average totals in its initial years.

In the initial few seasons of the tournament, a 200+ total in an innings was considered to be one of the big achievements. But it became the new normal over the last couple of seasons.

That said, here in this article, we’ll have a look at the five highest team totals in IPL history.

5 Highest Team Totals In IPL History

Sunrisers Hyderabad - 287/3, IPL 2024

Sunrisers Hyderabad looked completely on a different planet in IPL 2024. They ended up scoring three out of the top five highest team totals in that edition. The Pat Cummins-led side scored 250+ totals on all the three occasions.

It was their third 250+ total in IPL 2024, against RCB, which also happened to be the highest-ever team total in the tournament’s history. RCB won the toss and asked SRH to bat first.

On the back of explosive knocks scored by Travis Head (102) and Heinrich Klaasen (67), SRH smashed 287 runs for the loss of just three wickets in the allotted 20 overs with an astonishing run rate of 14.35.

However, RCB still managed to score 262 runs in the second innings, losing the game by a margin of 25 runs.

Sunrisers Hyderabad - 286/6, IPL 2025

The orange outfits continued their sensational run of form in IPL 2025, scoring another 250+ total. It was just the second match of the tournament, played between SRH and RR at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad.

RR asked SRH to bat first after winning the toss, and the latter responded brutally with their explosive batting. Ishan Kishan’s explosive century, 106 runs off just 47 balls, alongside Travis Head’s swashbuckling 31-ball 67, helped SRH post 286 runs for the loss of six wickets in the first 20 overs of the game.

Eventually, Pat Cummins and Co. won this game by 44 runs to start their campaign on a winning note. This total was the second-highest team total in the tournament’s history, just a run short of their previous 287/3 in the preceding IPL edition.

Sunrisers Hyderabad - 278/3, IPL 2025

It was the 68th game of IPL 2025, played between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. SRH skipper Pat Cummins won the toss and decided to bat first. Their top order once again started firing against the bowlers from the very first ball of the game.

After Abhishek’s 16-ball 32, Travis Head smashed 76 runs off just 40 balls, followed by Heinrich Klaasen’s unbeaten century (105 runs off just 39 balls). These knocks took SRH to the total of 278 runs for the loss of just three wickets in 20 overs. It was the third-highest team total in the IPL history.

SRH bowlers bundled out KKR at 168 runs and won this game by 110 runs, with Heinrich Klaasen winning the ‘Player of the Match’ award for his iconic century.

Sunrisers Hyderabad - 277/3, IPL 2024

Before surpassing their own record for the highest team total in IPL history, SRH set it against MI in the eighth game of IPL 2024. It happened almost three weeks before they scored 287/3 against RCB in the tournament’s 30th game.

In the eighth game against the Mumbai Indians, SRH scored 277 runs for the loss of just three wickets in the first innings. Travis Head (62), Abhishek Sharma (63), Aiden Markram (42), and Heinrich Klaasen (80*) starred with their sensational knocks to help SRH go past 270+.

It was the then-highest-ever team total in IPL history, before SRH surpassed themselves in their next appearances in IPL 2024 and IPL 2025.

KKR - 272/7, IPL 2024

Kolkata Knight Riders are the only team to be in the list of the top five highest team totals amidst SRH’s one-sided dominance in the tally. It was the 16th match of IPL 2024, played between KKR and Delhi Capitals at the YS Rajasekhara Reddy Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on April 3, 2024.

The then-KKR skipper won the toss and asked his batters to take charge first. The eventual champions smashed 272 runs for the loss of seven wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

Later, they bundled the Capitals at 166 runs to win the game by a huge margin of 106 runs. KKR’s 272-run total in this game is currently the fifth-highest team total in the IPL history.
