The IPL 2026 season is about to begin on March 28. Mumbai Indians, the five-time champions, will start their campaign on March 29 against KKR at their home ground in Wankhede Stadium.

MI has always had a star-studded squad, featuring some legends like Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya.

Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav have also added more firepower to this explosive lineup. However, when it comes to the overseas balance, Mumbai tends to fumble on some occasions.

Since the departure of Kieron Pollard and Lasith Malinga, the Mumbai Indians haven’t had any legendary overseas names in their squad for a while now.

But for IPL 2026, MI do have a quality set of foreign players. While squad rotation is common in a long IPL season, a few overseas players stand out as near-certain starters in every game due to their experience, role clarity, and recent form.

Mumbai Indians' 3 overseas players who could play all IPL 2026 matches

1. Trent Boult

Trent Boult has long been one of the Mumbai Indians’ most trusted overseas performers, and his role in IPL 2026 is expected to be just as significant. Just last season, he nailed 22 wickets in 16 games at 8.96 economy, including a four-wicket-haul.

Boult will pair up with Jasprit Bumrah to rattle the opposition with the new ball as well as control the flow of runs in death overs.

With 143 wickets in 120 IPL matches, Trent Boult often strikes early in the powerplay, making him indispensable. His ability to swing the new ball complements the pace of Bumrah, forming one of the most dangerous bowling duos in the league.

Given his track record and role clarity, Trent Boult is almost certain to be a regular starter throughout the season.

2. Quinton de Kock

To solve the opening pair conundrum, the Mumbai Indians signed South African veteran Quinton de Kock for INR 1 crore at the mini-auction table. He is expected to open alongside legend Rohit Sharma in IPL 2026, giving MI a strong foundation in the powerplay.

Also, having previously enjoyed success with MI, Quinton de Kock understands the team’s culture and expectations, which add brownie points to his candidature.

After reversing retirement, his recent outing in the T20 World Cup 2026 was a success as he scored 181 runs, suggesting that he is in solid form heading into the new IPL season.

While Ryan Rickelton remains an option, Quinton de Kock’s past experience with MI, consistency give him the edge to start regularly.

3. Mitchell Santner

New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner offers crucial balance to the MI lineup with his economical left-arm spin and lower-order batting.

On batting-friendly surfaces like the Wankhede, Santner can control the run flow, which becomes an invaluable skill and advantage.

During the IPL 2025 season, he picked up 10 wickets in 13 matches at an economy rate of 7.92. Beyond his bowling, Mitchell Santner provides depth with the bat and can play impactful cameos.

As a result, in a format where balance is key, Santner’s all-round capabilities make him a strong candidate to play every match.

Overall, the Mumbai Indians appear to have a well-settled overseas combination heading into IPL 2026.

Apart from Quinton de Kock, Mitchell Santner and Trent Boult, they also have to fill the 4th overseas slot where two candidates, Will Jacks and Sherfane Rutherford, will compete.
