Canada shined. Samra dazzled. But New Zealand? Relentless. Ravindra elegance. Phillips power. Chase perfection. Partnerships supreme. Victory by 8 wickets. Authority stamped. And the big news… New Zealand march into the Super 8. Form rising. Confidence soaring. Tournament heating up!!!

Until then, I am Dev Rajawat, signing off, along with my co-commentator, Ninaad Dixit, scorer, Raju Khariya, and statistician Aman. That’s it from our side. Thanks for joining. But there are two more games scheduled in the T20 World Cup. Switch tabs, follow the fun. Goodbye from this tab! TAKE CARE! BREATHE AND SMILE! CIAO!!!!
Daryl Mitchell (New Zealand Captain): (On Mitch Santner’s condition) “He’s tracking well. He wasn’t feeling great earlier, but he’s improving as the day goes on. He should be fine for the next match.

(On the win despite Canada’s strong batting effort) Credit to Canada, they played some really good cricket. On what looked like a very good surface, restricting them to 173, especially with a player scoring 110, was a fantastic effort from our bowlers. I take my hat off to him - he played a superb innings.

(On the middle order stepping up after early wickets) That’s the nature of our side. We’ve built a lineup where everyone is capable of doing the job. Losing early wickets doesn’t change the belief within the group because we know we bat deep, and different players can contribute on any given day.

(On the pitch and playing conditions) I thought it was a great wicket. It’s always enjoyable playing here - a number of us have strong connections through the CSK setup as well. We love playing in front of these crowds and really enjoy the atmosphere at this ground.

(On Stephen Fleming and the venue connection) Yes, it’s a special place with a lot of history. Fleming is obviously a huge figure here, and that adds to the feeling of playing at this stadium.

(On qualifying for the next stage) We’re really pleased to have qualified. Apart from that one setback, the group has played some good cricket. That’s the first objective ticked off for us in this tournament. Now the focus shifts to Colombo and preparing well for the Super 8s.”
Dilpreet Bajwa (Canada Captain): "(After first innings) We were a bit confident. Of course, we had one bowler short, Khalim Rana, but we were a bit confident that the ball was going to spin. When the Kiwis were bowling, the ball was spinning. But yeah, hard luck happened. Being one bowler short affected us.

(On the opening stand with Yuvraj) I think we were sure from the top order. In the last two games, we were losing wickets in the powerplay. So our plan was to stay at the crease and play as positively as we could. And I think hats off to Yuvraj. He's the youngest player in the World Cup and finished with a hundred in this match. I think it’s a very proud moment for him, and a proud moment for all Canadians that we had a hundred-run opening partnership against one of the biggest teams.

When you play against these teams, we, as an Associate side, are lacking, but we are learning quickly. In the last two games, we were losing wickets, but we planned accordingly and did well in this game.

(Pressure while bowling to NZ batters) Of course, yeah. When we had one bowler short, it made things difficult for the other bowlers. We were thinking about who was going to bowl next. When we got two quick wickets in the powerplay, they were the ones scoring for New Zealand in the last few games. But when we got them out, I was looking at our bowling options and we didn’t really have one there. So yeah, we lacked a bit.

(On the Associate cricket landscape) For Associate cricket, I feel like we need more matches against these big teams, like full-member nations. When we get that, I think we’re going to compete with them. Right now, we are just competing, but hopefully, with more games, we’ll start beating them. In the last World Cu,p we beat Ireland, and we’re still looking for one here. For Canadian cricket, I think people are going to start following the sport because of Yuvraj. He got a hundred and we had a big partnership. So now I think people will follow Canadian cricket too.

(On the last group game against Afghanistan) Yeah, it’s our last game, so nothing to lose. It’s all there to win. We’re going to go with full confidence and hopefully do well."
Glenn Phillips (Player of the Match): [on the intentions] "We got on a bit of a run in the end which is fantastic. Me and Rachin just tried to stick to our processes all the time. They got a couple of early wickets which put us on the backfoot a little bit but the pace was good.

[going about his business] Some days you just get balls in your zone a few more often than others and today happened to be one of those days for both me and Rachin. It was just about trying to make good decisions for one ball and that really mattered. As we carried on the partnership it just grew well.

[on Rachin] He's fabulous. He works incredibly on his T20 game. Come a long way over the last couple of years. For him to get some rewards like that for his hard work is fantastic.

[on losing early wickets] We've been in that position a couple of times in the recent past with both here and the Afghanistan game as well. It's just one of those things where if the top order don't necessarily come off then we've got a middle order to be able to do the job and some days the top order comes off really well and we don't have to do as much of a job so it's a real team effort on the whole.

[on Yuvraj Samra] Fabulous. Really clean striker of the ball, isn't he? The way he paces and ends, the way he picked his balls to hit it was fabulous. He's got a long future ahead of him. He was fantastic."
