A magnificent display from the Bangladesh A side keeps them at the top of the table in Group A. The bowlers set the tone and then Zawad Abrar and Mahidul Islam Ankon held their nerves, taking the side to a huge victory with 39 balls to spare.
That will be the end of our coverage. Ninaad Dixit here signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Darpan Tikiya and scorer Ghanendra Singh Thakur. Stay tuned for more action from around the world.
Akbar Ali (Bangladesh-A captain):" Ripon and the other bowlers set the tone from the offset. I cannot complain. 10/10 performance. The bowlers cannot do their job without the support of the fielders. Yes, we did drop a few catches. But overall a good performance. (On why was he keeping wickets today and not Ankon) When the captain is keeping wickets, he gets a better view.
We are in a good position with our good net run rate. But against Sri Lanka-A, we will have our work cut out."
Darwish Rasooli (Afghanistan A Captain): "We lost back-to-back wickets. The pitch was totally different, it was soft and turning. We cannot make excuses at this level. If we made 130-140 on this wicket, it could have been tricky to chase for Bangladesh A.
[On 50+ dots in their batting innings] We were expecting the pitch to play as it did in the previous games. We kept losing wickets and the pressure kept on building which made us play many dots. We need to be smarter to rotate the strike.
[Next match being crucial against Hong Kong] We will try our best to qualify for the semifinals. The net run rate is very important and we will look to improve it. We will go with the positive approach and good mindset."
Ripon Mondol (Player of the Match): "I am feeling very good. My team is also feeling very good. Early wickets are always a good thing. The wicket was a bit tricky. So, our plan was to bowl wicket to wicket. (On chances to play in the senior team) I have done well, hopefully the chances will come."
Player of the Match — Ripon Mondol
10:40 PM IST, 8:10 PM Local Time: An easy 8-wicket win for Bangladesh A against the defending champions Afghanistan A take them closer to the semifinal slot in the Asia Cup Rising Stars 2025!
Bangladesh A won the toss and elected to bowl first. Ripon Mondol wreaked havoc with the new ball picking up 3/10 in his 4 overs. His performance was well supported by Rakibul Hasan (3/10) and SM Meherob Hasan (2/14) as Afghanistan A were bundled out for 78 with skipper Darwish Rasooli top scoring with 27.
Bangladesh A lost Habibur Rahman Sohan (10 off 13) inside the powerplay and applied a cautious approach to score only 22 off the first six overs. Jishan Alam scored 10 off 16 and was next to depart with Allah Mohammad Ghazanfar claiming both the wickets bowling 4 overs on the trot finishing with 2/8.
Zawad Abrar batting at number 3 was joined by Mahidul Islam Ankon at 4 with the duo scoring 24 and 27 runs respectively remaining unbeaten in a 55-run partnership for the 3rd wicket to take the Bangladeshi side to an easy victory in the 14th over.
Abrar smashed a couple of maximums and a four whereas Ankon struck 3 fours in his watchful and match winning knock. The experienced Qais Ahmad bowled 3 overs with 0/14 and Bilal Sami bowled a solitary over conceding 5 runs with the new ball. No other bowler barring Ghazanfar and the duo could hold the run scoring from any end.
STAY TUNED FOR THE POST MATCH PRESENTATIONS.

WD WIDE BALL to finish the game. Abrar has mixed feelings that are visible on his face. His team has won the match, but he wanted to hit the winning runs. Fuller than the last one, sliding down the leg side, ended up too far for the batter's attempted flick to connect. Umpire Virender Sharma stretched his arms out and that marked the culmination. Bangladesh-A win by 8 wickets and with six-and-a-half overs to spare.
