Player Bio

At a very young age, Abdullah Ahmadzai has emerged as one of the most promising young fast bowlers in Afghanistan’s growing cricket landscape. Born in Nangarhar, Ahmadzai’s rise from domestic circuits to the national side reflects the country’s increasing depth in pace bowling talent.

A right-arm medium-fast bowler, Ahmadzai cut his teeth in tape-ball cricket before breaking into the Amo Sharks squad at the Shpageeza Cricket League, the country’s marquee T20 event, in 2025. However, his List A and first-class debuts came in 2023 and 2024, respectively.

Consistent performances at that level paved the way for his inclusion in national discussions, and a maiden international call-up followed in 2025. Ahmadzai was named in the Afghan T20I squad for the tri-series in the UAE, featuring the hosts and Pakistan, in August-September 2025.

Ahmadzai made his T20I debut in that series itself and soon found himself drafted into the Asia Cup squad after senior pacer Naveen-ul-Haq’s injury. In his first few matches, the 2003-born pacer picked up nine wickets in six outings, showing glimpses of his potential with figures of 3 for 42 as his best. In the away T20I series against Zimbabwe in October-November 2025, Ahmadzai was the joint-highest wicket-taker of the series along with Mujeeb Ur Rahman, with 7 wickets.

Still in the early stages of his career, Ahmadzai’s raw pace, stamina, and temperament have impressed selectors and teammates alike. While he continues to refine his consistency and adapt to higher levels of competition, his inclusion reflects Afghanistan’s faith in nurturing young quicks for the future.
