New Zealand made light work of Pakistan in the first ODI of the three-match series after taking the T20I series 4-1. Mark Chapman and Nathan Smith were the stars, while debutant Muhammad Abbas impressed with both bat and ball in his first ODI.

That's all we have from our coverage of this fixture. For now, this is Ajay Pal Singh signing off on behalf of my colleagues Anirudh Modi, Asraj Khan, and Sahil Khan. Goodbye!!!
Michael Bracewell (New Zealand Captain): "It was a great game of ODI cricket, lots of ebbs and flows, having to absorb pressure and apply later on. We utilized some of the T20I skills of the youngsters coming in.

You just try and use your resources the best you can and it paid off today. That's the game of cricket, you roll the dice a little bit and lucky for me it came off today. A great sign for domestic cricket here, guys coming in and playing the way they play in domestic cricket. Those guys used all their experience today and played to the best of their abilities.

It's easy when you are doing well, to be 3 down early, we got through that tough period and then we played how ODI cricket is supposed to be played. We targeted their 5th bowler. With the ball, Pakistan had some great partnerships but to stay in the game and to fight is what New Zealand cricket is all about."
Mohammad Rizwan (Pakistan Captain): "Yeah, the way we started in the second innings. The partnership was going great but once the pressure kicked in, we lost wickets and that changed the momentum. (on what went wrong in the chase)

(on decision to bowl first) Yeah, basically the way we won the toss and decided to bowl first, you want to take advantage of that. It was difficult to bat. Chapman played well which is why they put good runs on the board.

(on youngsters) Yeah, we need to give them experience. In the middle-order batting we had a few youngsters so these things can happen in a chase. It is a good challenge to play in these conditions for our youngsters."
Mark Chapman (Player of the Match): "It was tricky earlier on and we were aiming for lower than what we got but I'm glad we adapted to the conditions and got the score we did. The communication between me and Mitch was to absorb pressure and put some pressure on them, but something like Abbas on debut, put the icing on the cake that was needed.

You trust your gut in those situations, the ball was moving around but once the ball got older, the conditions improved, batting got easier. Little bit of a hamstring tweak which is not ideal, a few days of recovery and hopefully I'll be back for the last one."

Time for the post match presentation ceremony..
11:35 AM IST & 7:05 PM Local Time: That's it!!! New Zealand complete a comprehensive win by 73 runs over Pakistan in the first ODI to go 1-0 up in this three-match series. Mark Chapman laid the foundation with the bat with a fine century, and then Nathan Smith's four-wicket haul sealed the deal for the Kiwis.

Earlier in the match, Pakistan won the toss and opted to bowl first. They had New Zealand at 50/3 in 12.4 overs, and it looked like the perfect decision by Mohammad Rizwan.

However, a 199-run partnership between Daryl Mitchell and Mark Chapman for the fourth wicket brought New Zealand back into the game.

Chapman scored 132 off 111 balls, while Mitchell made 76 off 84 balls. Muhammad Abbas scored the fastest half-century by a debutant in ODIs, getting to the milestone off just 24 balls to help New Zealand post 344/9 from 50 overs.

Irfan Khan Niazi picked up 3 wickets, while Akif Javed and Haris Rauf bagged two apiece. Naseem Shah and Mohammad Ali chipped in with a wicket each.

In reply, Pakistan started well as Abdullah Shafique and Usman Khan added 83 runs for the first wicket.

They lost both openers in quick succession, but then Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan added 76 runs together for the 3rd wicket to steady the ship.

Rizwan perished for 30, but then Agha Salman gave Babar good company as they added 85 runs and, at one stage, looked like they would take the game away from New Zealand.

Babar perished while trying to up the ante, and that opened the gate for New Zealand to come back into the game.

Pakistan kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were eventually bowled out for 271 in 44.1 overs.

Nathan Smith was the pick of the bowlers for New Zealand, finishing with figures of 4/60. Jacob Duffy bagged two while William O'Rourke, Michael Bracewell and Muhammad Abbas picked up one wicket each.
