Tom Rogers (Player of the Match): "Cooper Connolly played a great knock despite being on the losing side and it was a tight game in the end. The last few games have been bowler friendly and it has worked to our advantage. The outfield has been good historically and 140 was around a par score. We have got a nice squad put together but it means nothing if we can't get the wins. We learnt from the first game and we have been bowling really well since."

5:04 PM IST, 10:34 PM Local Time: That’s it. The Melbourne Renegades grab their second win of this year’s Big Bash League and first at the Marvel Stadium. In tricky conditions, the Renegades display a good all-around effort to beat the Perth Scorchers by two wickets. The Scorchers suffer their second loss this season and will be disappointed with their effort tonight. They tried hard with the ball but there just weren't enough runs on the board to defend.
Chasing 144 on a tricky surface, the Renegades lost Jake Fraser-McGurk (2) in the very first over. Josh Brown was joined by Tim Seifert and both went berserk at the top of the order. Seifert scored 28 off 14 before nicking one to the keeper as the Renegades finished the powerplay on 42/2. Brown holed out in the very next over on 12. Jacob Bethell along with Laurie Evans led the recovery work for the hosts.
Bethell played some wonderful strokes and raced to 30 before getting cleaned up in the 10th over as the 54-run stand was broken by Ashton Agar. Evans was sent back in the next over on 24. Mackenzie Harvey got knocked over on nine. The Scorchers kept themselves in the contest by dismissing Tom Rogers on five.
The game went down the wire. However, Renegades’ skipper Will Sutherland made sure that he remained unscathed till end. Fergus O’Neill scored a handy nine before chipping one to mid off in the penultimate over. Sutherland held his nerves and remained unbeaten on 15 to take his side across the line with one over to spare.
The Scorchers were asked to bat first and they got off to a shaky start. Openers Finn Allen (0) and Keaton Jennings (9) fell cheaply inside the powerplay. The Renegades bowled beautifully and kept the visitors under immense pressure. Josh Inglis (4) and Ashton Turner (8) fell while trying to break free. Cooper Connolly stood tall from one and received good support from debutant Matthew Spoors.
Connolly and Spoors put 49 for the fifth wicket before the latter departed on 29. Connolly kept going strong and brought up his fifty. He holed out in the deep in the last over on 66. His knock helped the Scorchers get a respectable total of 143. The Renegades picked up eight wickets in total, with Tom Rogers being the most impressive. He registered figures of 3/22 in his four overs. The game went down the wire and the Renegades held their nerves to emerge victorious by two wickets.
