Sophie Devine walks towards the stage and collects the trophy from ICC Chairperson Greg Barclay. She joins her teammates who are waiting for her. The celebrations begin and off go the fireworks. The celebrations will go on till midnight for sue. NEW ZEALAND WOMEN, the new T20 CHAMPIONS.
Sophie Devine (New Zealand Women Captain): "Ah, I think once I get my hands on that trophy, I can explain you better. You have to wait for now (On how is she feeling)
I started to let myself dream yesterday night as to how would it be to lift that cup in front of my teammates but I did not want to get too far ahead of myself. It's really hard to put into words. It has been a really hard journey for Me, Suzie and Lea. It's really hard to put into words.
Look, I think the best thing about this group is that we know what we have to achieve probably in the last 18-24 months. We have played two of the best teams in the tournament and as you said, coming with 10 losses in a row and being champions at the end of the tournament is pretty special.
(On Suzie Bates) She is just outstanding. As you said, she is the most capped Women's player. To have her in the side, everyone knows how special I find Suzie and what she has been able to achieve to be able to win the World Cup is something really special.
(On Lea Tahuhu) Look, I have spoken about it before. Lea is someone whom you want to have in the team. She will give you those crucial breakthroughs and we know that she will make something happen. It's the best thing about this team is that, they try to help the team as much as possible.
(On Sophie Devine herself) No chance, I am done as the Captain of New Zealand in T20Is.
(On that partnership between Halliday and Kerr) Oh, it was outstanding to be honest. Brooke was outstanding, she hit the ball in the pockets, the running between the wickets was also really impressive.
(On Amelia Kerr) Look, I think we probably know that she is once in a generation to be honest. What she has done tonight is something special. I am so proud of the person she is, she is not a bad cricketer but its scary to think how good she can be.
Look, I feel the South African side were simply magnificent. The way they played the Semi-Final against Australia was simply outstanding. Thanks to ICC and New Zealand Cricket."
Now the Champions, New Zealand Women walk up to collect their Winnersβ medal.
Laura Wolvaardt (South Africa Women Captain): "Yeah, I think we had a really good semi-final. The focus was to reset before this final and I guess we didn't play well.
They came out hard in the powerplay. The thought process was to pick quick wickets but they kept going hard. We let them score a too many and disappointed with this.
We have to reflect on what went wrong. Still fresh now. At the halfway stage, we were backing ourselves to chase down that total.
We had a great start but they put the squeeze on in the middle overs. 7-12 isn't a great phase.
Very exciting. Have some experienced players like Marizanne Kapp. There are young players as well who didn't get a chance in this World Cup. We will get back to the drawing board and move forward.
A big thank you to our management. The work they put behind the scenes always go unnoticed. Also, to the families that flew here to support us. Also, thanks to Cricket South Africa and ICC for this event.
South Africa Women now collect their runners-up medals.
