Vishnu Vinod’s Early Life and Background
Vishnu Vinod was born in Pathanamthitta, Kerala. Growing up in a sports-oriented environment, he was encouraged to pursue cricket from a young age and soon began formal training through the Kerala Cricket Association.
During his formative years, Vishnu progressed through Kerala’s age-group structure, representing U-19 and U-23 sides. His natural attacking instinct and clean hitting ability set him apart early, helping him transition smoothly into senior domestic cricket.
Vishnu Vinod’s Domestic Career
Vishnu Vinod’s domestic journey is a story of consistency, loyalty, and steady evolution. Despite moving across multiple IPL franchises, he has remained deeply rooted in Kerala, representing the state across formats for over a decade. His performances have also earned him selection for the South Zone in inter-zonal tournaments, reflecting his stature in domestic cricket.
His breakthrough moment came in the 2018–19 Ranji Trophy season when he scored a commanding unbeaten 193 against Madhya Pradesh.
In the 2019–20 Vijay Hazare Trophy, where he emerged as Kerala’s leading run-scorer with 508 runs in eight matches at an average of 63.50, including three centuries.
Over the years, he has grown into a reliable middle-order batter for Kerala, providing stability in crucial phases. During the 2023–24 season, he crossed the milestone of 1,000 first-class runs.
Vishnu Vinod’s IPL Career
Vishnu Vinod first entered the league in 2017 when the Royal Challengers Bengaluru signed him as a replacement player. He featured in three matches that season but did not get extended opportunities afterwards.
He went unsold in the following auctions before being picked up by the Delhi Capitals in 2021, where he remained on the bench throughout the season. In 2022, he joined Sunrisers Hyderabad but once again did not feature in the playing XI.
A turning point came when the Mumbai Indians signed him in 2023. He returned to action after several years and made a notable contribution with a quickfire 30 in one of his appearances. However, injuries disrupted his continuity, and he was released before the 2025 auction.
His strong domestic performances, particularly in the 2025–26 season, reignited interest from franchises. In the IPL 2025 auction, Punjab Kings secured him for INR 95 lakh after a competitive bidding process and retained him for the 2026 season.
