Sushma Verma is a wicket-keeper batter, who represents India at the international level in women's cricket. Verma made her T20I debut against Bangladesh in the year 2013.
Before making her international debut, Verma played for Himachal Pradesh and under her captaincy, the team from the north were the runners-up at the U19 All-India women’s tournament in 2011. The Shimla-born is the first cricketer from Himachal to represent India at the international level.
Jotting impressive numbers with the bat meant that Verma was finally selected for the Test squad for the series against South Africa in 2014.
In the very same year, Verma made her ODI debut against South Africa and was run-out for a nought in her very first game.
Despite not jotting impressive numbers since her ODI debut, the Velocity cricketer was part of the Indian team that travelled for the 2017 Women’s World Cup. In a group stage game against arch-rivals Pakistan, Verma was promoted at no.7 and scored a 35-ball 33 and stitched a crucial 34-run stand with Jhulan Goswami to help India recover from 111 for 6 to 169 for 9.
Sushma has been an integral part of the Indian team for the past 7 years. Though she initially struggled at the international level and looked underconfident, Verma became a different player altogether post the 2017 World Cup. Her crucial knock against Pakistan helped to regain her lost confidence.
