Part of the U-19 World Cup-winning squad in 2012, Smit Patel is a former Indian cricketer who grew up playing age-group cricket, firstly for Gujarat in domestic cricket and then India U-19 and U-23 squads.
The Ahmedabad-born gloveman lived his dream of winning the U-19 World Cup title in 2012, and he played a crucial role with the bat in the final recording an unbeaten partnership of 130 runs for the fifth wicket to win the prestigious title for India. In search of more matches as a batsman, Smit became a journeyman in the domestic circuit and decided to call it quits from Indian cricket to pursue his cricketing career in the USA.
The 28-year old has now got the opportunity to ply his trade in various franchise cricket all over the world and he will start his journey from the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Patel now has to spend three years in the States to become eligible to qualify for the national team.
