UAE fast bowler Matiullah Khan's story is one of hard work, resilience, and an unshakable belief that talent can shine through any circumstance.
Born in Bannu, Pakistan, Matiullah moved to the United Arab Emirates as a teenager in search of work. Life was far from easy. He spent his early years working long shifts as a truck driver to make ends meet. But even after gruelling hours on the road, cricket remained his passion. On dusty grounds in Sharjah and Ajman, he bowled tirelessly after work, sharpening his pace and rhythm while others rested.
It was during one of these local tournaments that his talent was noticed. His pace and control with the new ball stood out, earning him a place in domestic competitions and, eventually, a spot in the UAE national camp. Coaches admired his discipline and determination—traits forged through years of hard labour rather than formal training.
In March 2023, Matiullah’s persistence paid off when he made his One-Day International debut for the UAE against the United States. His T20I debut came two years later against Bangladesh. Over the years, the 1993-born pacer has represented the UAE in multiple T20Is and has turned out for the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders in the ILT20. He made his ILT20 debut in the 2022-23 season and then played the next season, but unfortunately didn't play a single game in the previous edition. However, he will represent the Desert Vipers franchise in the 2025-26 season of ILT20.
Now in his thirties, Khan stands as one of the UAE’s most hard-earned success stories—a fast bowler who quite literally drove his way into international cricket through persistence, passion, and sheer will.
