An Irish cricketer who is renowned for his skiddy seam-up deliveries, Mark Adair hails from a sporting background and was seen as a potential superstar for Ireland cricket.
Adair came into prominence at the age of 17 when he was picked for the Warwickshire trials and dismissed the English international Marcus Trescothick as his maiden first-class wicket. The Irish seamer was selected in the ODI squad for the series against Afghanistan in June 2016 but his debut came three years later in May 2019, against England in a wicketless match for the debutant. The Holywood-born seamer made his Test debut against the same opponents on July 24th, 2019 and it was a memorable one for the youngster, scalping 6 wickets on his debut.
On the back of an impressive debut season, Adair’s dream came true when he was awarded a central contract by the Irish Board at the start of 2020. During the post-Covid-19 outbreak, he was selected in the 21-man squad to tour England for their ODI series but suffered a knee injury which saw the young prodigy missing from the first two matches of the series.
With age on his side, Adair finds himself at the centre of a new generation of Irish cricket. With the likes of Tim Murtagh, Gary Wilson, and William Porterfield in the twilight of their careers, he would be hoping to become the star seamer for the Irish national team in the years to come.
