JP King is one of South Africa’s emerging all-rounders, carrying both batting power and bowling versatility into his game. Born on August 26, 2003, he is a right-handed batter and right-arm off-spin bowler who represents the Warriors in domestic cricket and the Joburg Super Kings in the SA20 league.
King made his first-class debut for North West in March 2023 and quickly began to make an impression with both bat and ball. In just four matches, he scored 420 runs at an average of 52.5, including a career-best 143. He has also proved his ability in the shorter formats, registering a List A top score of 68* and handy spells with the ball, including 2/13 in the one-day competition.
With the ball, King has shown glimpses of promise, picking up three wickets in first-class cricket and seven in T20s. His all-round skill set makes him a useful option for any side, capable of contributing in multiple roles.
Part of a cricketing family, JP is the brother of Christopher King, another talented South African cricketer. Together, the King brothers have already made their mark in domestic and franchise cricket, and JP’s early numbers suggest that he could be a valuable long-term prospect for South Africa.
