Another promising opener from Bangladesh, Hannan Sarkar who shattered all the hopes, when played the sport at the highest level. Sarkar was a technically enabled batter who knew the art of batting longer hours. He was brought into the national team at the tender age of 19 years and just his entry, his exit came at a lightning speed.
The Dhaka-born was fast-tracked to the international arena, after a couple of prolific domestic seasons for his division. The national selectors booked Sarkar’s ticket to Sri Lanka where the opener made both Test and ODI debuts in 2002. The opener had a debut to remember as he scored a fluent half-century.
He remained with the national team as his talent was praised highly. Sarkar was also part of the squad that toured Africa for the 2003 World Cup. Post the ICC event, he toured Australia to play the match of his life. In the second Test, Sarkar scored twin fifties against the likes of Glenn McGrath, Jason Gillispie, and Brett Lee. However, the talented batter was soon sidelined due to a lack of consistency.
The Bangladeshi opener played his last game in 2004 and tried his luck at the domestic level until 2011. As Sarkar retired after playing 17 Tests and 20 One-Dayers to score a total of 1045 international runs, including eight half-centuries.
