Gavin Hamilton Profile, Career & Stats

Gavin Hamilton is a former all-round cricketer who played one Test for England and also played a handful ODIs and T20Is for Scotland. Hamilton was a bits-and-pieces kind of a cricketer who was a hard-hitting middle-order batsman and a nifty swing bowler. 

Hamilton earned the U-16 and U-19 caps for Scotland. In his initial days, the Broxburn-born was more of a batsman who could swing his arm when needed. He began his senior career in 1993 and made an instant by bagging a five-wicket haul on his First-Class debut. Later that season, Hamilton also appeared in Yorkshire Second XI, before making it into the first team in 1994.

However, the allrounder became a hit during the 1998 season where the Scotland-born was one of the biggest performers for Yorkshire in the Championship. The Scottish took 59 first-class wickets at 20.54, apart from hitting six Championship fifties. Hamilton was also a hit in the One-Day format where he claimed 34 scalps at 18.94.

After that, the allrounder took command of Scottish batting during the World Cup in 1999 where he compiled a total of 217 runs at 54.25. The following year, he donned the English Test cap at Johannesburg against South Africa to score a couple and wasn’t able to pick any wicket. Hence, he was again picked for Scotland in the squad for the 2004 ECC European Championship, after a mandatory four-year period. 

Meanwhile, the allrounder shifted from Yorkshire to Durham, before ending his county career in 2005. Hamilton contributed highly to Scotland Cricket, helping them qualify for the 2007 World Cup, led the nation into the 2009 World T20, before retiring in 2010. The following year, Hamilton was inducted into the Scottish Cricket Hall of fame.
