A tall and a quick right-arm fast bowler who made a name for herself playing for Sussex, Freya Davies has achieved a lot ever since her domestic debut in 2010.
By 2013, she became a regular feature for her domestic side, picking up 7 wickets at an average of 20 in the Women’s County Championship that year.
The speedster played for Western Storm in the Women’s Cricket Super League, from 2016 till 2019, winning two titles and also finishing as the leading wicket-taker in the 2019 competition with 19 scalps to her name.
Still uncapped in 2019, Davies was awarded the central contract by the ECB and was selected in her maiden international tours to India and Sri Lanka. She made her debut in a T20I match against Sri Lanka in 2019, picking up 2 wickets for 28 runs.
The following year Davies played two matches in the 2020 Australia women’s tri-nation series and was also included in the England squad for the 2020 Women’s World T20I held in Australia. However, she did not feature in any of the matches in the tournament.
In 2021, the Sussex born was included in the England squad for their tour to New Zealand. She rose to prominence in the T20I series where she took her career-best figures of 4 for 23 in the second T20I of the series and finished as the joint leading wicket-taker.
Davies has been magnificent in the domestic circuit for the past decade now. However, she has performed well in bits and pieces at the international level. She has the potential to be a match-winner for the England team and has to be a little more consistent if she wants to play regularly for the women’s team.
