Beyers Swanepoel has steadily earned a reputation as one of South Africaâs most reliable all-rounders in domestic cricket. Born on 6 May 1998, he made his first-class debut for Free State in March 2017 and quickly caught the eye with his lively right-arm medium-fast bowling. Later that same year, he broke into List A cricket and has since been a consistent performer across all formats.
Swanepoelâs big breakthrough came in 2018 when he finished as the leading wicket-taker in the University Sports South Africa tournament, an achievement that led to his selection for the Future Cup the following year. His ability to combine movement with discipline has made him a regular threat with the ball, while his useful left-handed batting adds depth to any side he represents.
Over the years, he has represented Free State, Northern Cape, Knights, Eastern Province, and even had a stint with Kent in England. In franchise cricket, he has been a key part of the Sunrisers Eastern Cape setup, playing a crucial role in their SA20 triumph during the 2023/24 season. His domestic excellence was further recognised when he bagged the SACA MVP award, highlighting his value as a genuine all-round contributor.
Statistically, Swanepoel has been prolific with the ball. In first-class cricket, he has taken more than 160 wickets, including a best of 7 for 50, alongside nearly 1,400 runs with the bat. In List A matches, he has collected over 70 wickets and chipped in with valuable runs, while in T20s he has continued to provide breakthroughs with his best figures of 5 for 39.
Still only in his mid-20s, Swanepoelâs ability to influence games with both bat and ball makes him one of South Africaâs brightest domestic performers and a player whose career trajectory promises even greater heights.
