Player Bio

Harsh Dubey, a slow left-arm orthodox spinner from Vidarbha, has emerged as one of the brightest all-round prospects in Indian domestic cricket. Born on July 23, 2002, Dubey's journey from the dusty maidans of Nagpur to the record books of the Ranji Trophy has been a tale of perseverance, raw talent, and steady evolution. His 2024–25 domestic season catapulted him into the national spotlight after he broke the long-standing record for most wickets in a single Ranji Trophy season.

Dubey’s introduction to cricket came by chance. His interest in the game was sparked during a casual outing with his father, when they stumbled upon a cricket academy. That serendipitous moment set the wheels in motion. His natural ability with the ball quickly stood out at the academy, and he started representing Vidarbha at junior levels.

He came through the ranks in Vidarbha’s structured age-group system, playing at the Under-13, Under-15, Under-19, and Under-23 levels. His consistency, particularly in the Under-19 and Under-23 circuits, established him as a dependable wicket-taker. He was also part of Chennai’s TNCA First Division League, where he honed his skills in red-ball cricket and benefited from mentoring sessions with senior pros, including Ravichandran Ashwin.

While Dubey's red-ball prowess has attracted the most attention, his white-ball stats show promise too.

The spinner’s breakout season came in 2024–25. He was the cornerstone of Vidarbha’s bowling attack, notching up five-wicket hauls against major teams, including a sensational spell in the semifinal against Mumbai. His ability to bowl long spells without losing intensity made him invaluable on both helpful and flat tracks.

Despite topping Vidarbha's wicket charts in the previous season, Dubey was snubbed for the 2024 Duleep Trophy. That disappointment became a turning point.

Dubey is a classic left-arm spinner; flight, dip, and control are his hallmarks. Unlike many modern-day tweakers who rely on defensive lines, he attacks the stumps and thrives on subtle variations. With the bat, he’s gutsy and capable of shepherding the tail, making him a genuine all-round option.

In the middle of the IPL 2025, an injury to R Smaran saw Harsh Dubey get a contract from the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Interestingly, Smaran replaced the Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa.
