The 2027 ODI World Cup is still far away, but the ICC has already started its preparations as the governing body revealed the venues for the marquee event scheduled to take place in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. The tournament will take place in October and November, and Australia will enter the World Cup as the defending champions.
Apart from the Aussies, India will also start the competition as one of the favourites, considering they have won the last three ICC tournaments. Most likely, the Indian side will play the majority of their World Cup matches in South Africa, and one of the main venues that will host the matches there is The Wanderers, Johannesburg.
Interestingly, the Indian ODI team doesn’t have the best of records at The Wanderers, and while some of the players have individually done brilliantly, together, as a team, the Indian team has failed to deliver.
In this article, we take a look at India's ODI record at the Wanderers and some of their top performers at the venue.

As the table suggests, Team India doesn’t boast the best of ODI records at The Wanderers. They have played nine ODIs in total at this venue, and have only tasted success in 4 of them.
The Men in Blue have lost 5 ODI matches at The Wanderers, and they have a win percentage of only 44.4. Their highest score at this venue was registered against Sri Lanka (292/6 during the 2003 ODI World Cup).
The Johannesburg wicket has pace and bounce, and traditionally, Asian teams generally struggle at this venue as they take time to adjust to the bouncy conditions, and thus, India's ODI record at the Wanderers doesn't look promising.

What happened when India last played an ODI match at The Wanderers?
It was the first ODI of the series, and South Africa batted first, as they crumbled under pressure. On a surface that assisted the pacers, Arshdeep Singh ran riot as he dismantled the home team with his swing bowling.
The left-arm seamer bagged a five-wicket haul, and he was amply supported by Avesh Khan, who picked up 4 crucial wickets to dismiss South Africa for a paltry 116.
In reply, India lost Ruturaj Gaikwad early, but fifties from Sai Sudharsan and Shreyas Iyer ensured that the Men in Blue cruised towards the target with 8 wickets in hand.
