India-Born Cricketers Who Have Played vs India For ICC Full-Member Teams

Emerging allrounder Nikhil Chaudhary earned a place in the Australia-A squad that will travel to India for three One-day matches against the India-A team. Nikhil has been a regular face in the Big Bash League, playing a key role for Hobart Hurricanes in the marquee competition. 

The swashbuckling right-hander adds immense value to the team, as he can not only finish the innings with his power-hitting but also roll his arms for a few overs of effective spin bowling. 

Nikhil Chaudhary to play for Australia-A against an Indian side

Nikhil Chaudhary was born on May 4, 1996, in Delhi. He went on to represent Punjab in two matches in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2017 before shifting his base to Australia. 

His exploits in the BBL earned Nikhil Chaudhary his maiden T20I cap for the Australian team against Bangladesh in June 2026. As he has been included in the Australia-A squad vs India-A, the series marks his maiden outing against his country of birth in elite cricket. 

While Nikhil Chaudhary will face an Indian side for the first time in his career, several prominent India-born players have previously represented ICC full-member teams against the Indian team in international cricket, as mentioned below. 

1. Ish Sodhi - New Zealand

Renowned New Zealand spinner Ish Sodhi was born on October 31, 1992, in the Indian city of Ludhiana in Punjab. He migrated to Auckland with his parents as a child, eventually working alongside former cricketers Dipak Patel and Matt Horne to earn his maiden call-up to New Zealand's national cricket team. 

Ish Sodhi has faced his country of birth, India, in 34 international matches for New Zealand. He has been one of New Zealand's most successful bowlers against the Indian team, scalping 39 wickets at a strike rate of 29.5 across formats.

Interestingly, Ish Sodhi is the highest wicket-taker for the BlackCaps against India with 30 breakthroughs, including a phenomenal 3/18 that helped his team beat the Indians in the 2016 World Cup clash in Nagpur. 

2. Nasser Hussain- England

Former England captain Nasser Hussain was born on March 28, 1968, in Chennai. His father, Raza Jawad Hussain, represented Madras in his only game against Andhra in the 1965 Ranji Trophy season. 

However, as the family migrated to England, Hussain pursued his cricketing career in the European nation. He became a regular in the Essex setup, eventually representing England and leading them in international cricket. 

Nasser Hussain took on India across 23 international matches. He was one of England's most consistent performers against the Indian team, scoring 1234 runs, including five hundreds and three fifties at an average of 45.7. 

Nasser Hussain blew hot and cold as a skipper, though, with India defeating England on nine of 19 occasions during his stint as the English captain. 

He was the captain of the England team that went down to India in the famous NatWest Trophy final at Lord's, with Yuvraj Singh and Mohammad Kaif helping the tourists chase a gigantic total of 326 runs. Under his captaincy, the Englishmen lost the Leeds Test to India and suffered a heavy defeat in the 2003 World Cup encounter in Durban. 

3. Ajaz Patel- New Zealand

Left-arm spinner Ajaz Patel was born in Mumbai, Maharashtra, on October 21, 1988. He emigrated to New Zealand with his family aged 8 and became one of the regular members of the BlackCaps in Test cricket.

Ajaz Patel was the fifth Indian origin cricketer to play international cricket for New Zealand. Although the 37-year-old has featured in only 29 matches, including 22 Tests and seven ODIs, his ten-wicket haul against India remains the most significant highlight of his career. 

Ajaz became only the third bowler in Test history after Jim Laker and Anil Kumble to take all ten wickets in a Test innings. He achieved the remarkable feat against India, coincidentally at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, the city where he was born. 

Overall, Ajaz has played 6 matches against India, scalping 32 wickets at a superb strike rate of 38. He is New Zealand's second most successful spinner against the Indian team in Test history. 

4. Vikram Solanki - England

Former England opener Vikram Solanki was born in the Indian city of Udaipur in Rajasthan on April 1, 1976. After his family shifted to England when he was 8, Solanki played for Worcestershire and became a regular member of the English ODI team for a brief period. 

Vikram Solanki played 7 international matches for England against India. Barring a fifty and a crucial 48-run knock in the bilateral series between the two teams in 2004, Vikram Solanki mostly registered failures with the bat against the Indian team. 

Overall, he finished his career with 181 runs across 7 international innings against India, registering a modest average of 25.85, even less than his batting average in ODI cricket.
