Former Australia star David Warner admitted to a drink-driving offence and is set to be sentenced soon. As this is not the first time, let’s revisit five controversies that put Warner in hot water.

2. Warner's Infamous Joe Root Clash In 2013
England- Australia’s fierce rivalry has always captivated fans' hearts, as whenever they take the field, the clash injects an extra dose of excitement for the fans. As rivalries are meant to be on the field, David Warner once took it off the ground. The forgettable incident took place in 2013 in Birmingham.
David Warner allegedly punched Joe Root after the England batter jokingly placed a green-and-gold wig on his chin during a night out. The Aussie star reportedly misinterpreted the gesture as a mock imitation of former South African opener Hashim Amla and lost his temper. That was one of the lowest points of his career.

3. David Warner’s ‘Speak English’ Face Off With Rohit Sharma
Every time India and Australia face off, cricket fans across the globe see a thrilling spectacle on the pitch. The fierce rivalry between these two cricketing giants witnessed some of the classic battles, but the serious confrontation between Rohit Sharma and David Warner is still fresh in fans’ memories.
The incident occurred in 2015, during an ODI encounter in Melbourne. The Australian opener objected after assuming Rohit Sharma had gained an additional run because the ball had struck his legs. Warner was frustrated over the incident and argued with the former Indian captain, saying, ‘Speak English’. Later, he was warned by Cricket Australia’s CEO and fined 50% of his match fees.
4. The Day David Warner Put Horse Racing First
For a cricketer, the game of cricket always gets top-most priority, but once David Warner flipped the script. While 2013 was marked by controversies that rocked his career, another bold decision in October 2023 grabbed headlines when he appeared to prioritize a horse race over a cricket match.
During the domestic season that year, the former Aussie Opener opted not to play a match for his club. But the controversy emerged when he was spotted at a horse race. The incident stirred massive controversy as Warner faced a warning from NSW Chief Andrew Jones.
5. Warner’s Staircase Face-Off With Quinton de Kock
The infamous ‘Ball Tampering’ mishap highlighted the South Africa-Australia Test series in 2018, but that was not the only controversy that caught up David Warner’s name. During the tea break of the fourth day of the Durban Test, a nasty faceoff between David Warner and Quinton de Kock turned heads.
CCTV footage captured players from both teams walking back to their dressing rooms when David Warner became involved in a heated verbal exchange on the staircase. During that time, both players were seen engaging in a verbal spat. Due to that, the Aussie star was handed three demerit points and fined 75% of his match fees.
