15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been the backbone of Rajasthan Royals’ successful IPL 2026 campaign. He breached the 600 runs mark during the Eliminator game and has scripted multiple elite records for himself.

RR took on SRH at the Mullanpur Stadium in Chandigarh in the Eliminator game of the IPL 2026 playoffs. Hyderabad opted to bowl first but instantly regretted their decision as Sooryavanshi activated his beast mode to unleash a record innings.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi sets a new bar for uncapped players

15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi went absolutely ballistic against SRH as he smashed the bowlers all over the park. The kid scored 97 runs off just 29 balls and missed an opportunity to break the fastest IPL hundred record by a whisker.

In his mad knock, the RR opener hammered 12 sixes and 5 fours while batting at a mega strike rate of 334. With that knock, Sooryavanshi’s season tally reached 680 runs, which is the new all-time record for the most runs scored by an uncapped player in a single IPL season.

Interestingly, the previous record belonged to his opening partner, Yashasvi Jaiswal, who had scored 626 runs for the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2023.

Most runs by an uncapped batter in an IPL season

  • 680 - Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (RR, 2026)
  • 625 - Yashasvi Jaiswal (RR, 2023)
  • 616 - Shaun Marsh (PBKS, 2008)
  • 573 - Riyan Parag (RR, 2024)
  • 549 - Prabhsimran Singh (PBKS, 2025)

Vaibhav went past that landmark in breathtaking fashion, needing just 15 balls to surpass the tally before racing to a blistering 16-ball half-century.

Sooryavanshi equals Suresh Raina's record

Interestingly, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi also scripted another record through his blistering knock. He scored his half-century in just 16 balls, which is the joint fastest record in IPL playoff history.

Suresh Raina previously scored a 16-ball fifty for CSK during Qualifier 2 of the IPL 2014 season.

Fastest 50s in IPL playoffs/Knockouts (By Balls):

  • 16 - Suresh Raina (CSK) vs PBKS, Mumbai (Wankhede), 2014 (Qualifier 2)
  • 16 - Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (RR) vs SRH, Mullanpur, 2026 (Eliminator)
  • 17 - Adam Gilchrist (Deccan Chargers) vs DD, Centurion, 2009 (Semi-Final)
  • 20 - MS Dhoni (CSK) vs MI, Bengaluru, 2012 (Eliminator)

This was a remarkable knock that came during an intense pressure situation. To tackle SRH, RR needed a strong start, but Vaibhav Sooryavanshi gave them a historic start instead. It’s important for RR to capitalise on this and ensure they finish with a record final total.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi misses a big opportunity

That being said, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi could have shattered another iconic record during the RR vs SRH IPL 2026 Eliminator contest. He had hit 29 runs off Praful Hinge’s 8th overs and was standing at 97 off 28.

He needed just one more boundary to break Chris Gayle’s record of fastest IPL hundred, which the latter achieved in 30 balls. However, Hinge bowled a short and wide delivery.

Vaibhav attempted an upper-cut over third man to reach the landmark quickly but failed to get enough distance. Smaran Ravichandran ran forward and completed the catch.

Needless to say, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi looked devastated and didn’t want to leave the field. He even hit himself on the head in frustration while walking back. SRH players themselves applauded him and patted him on the back because they knew they had witnessed something extraordinary.
