In the ongoing IPL 2026 match 7 between Chennai Super Kings and Punjab Kings at the Chepauk Stadium, 18-year-old Ayush Mhatre has hogged the internet for his heroics. The CSK youngster who scored a golden duck in the first match returned to form with a blistering fifty.
Notably, CSK were asked to bat first, and Shreyas Iyer’s decision turned out to be gold as PBKS got Sanju Samson out early on in the innings. Ayush Mhatre walked to the bat when the five-time winners were reduced to 14/1. The 18-year-old was unfazed by the pressure and took the game away with a 29-ball fifty.
Ayush Mhatre Shatters Suresh Raina’s Feat
As mentioned above, Ayush Mhatre brought up his second IPL fifty in style with a 29-ball half-century. His knock featured eight boundaries. With the feat, Mhatre also shattered Suresh Raina’s 18-year-old record. Mhatre became the youngest player for CSK to score a fifty at Chepauk.

Talking about the ongoing match, Ayush Mhatre returned to the pavillion after scoring 73 (43). Notably, he was welcomed in the dug-out with a standing ovation. Not just the CSK members, but entire Chepauk Stadium stood up to honour the youngster's knock.
Ayush Mhatre Single-Handedly Guides CSK To Respectable Total
CSK lost Sanju Samson early on but Ayush Mhatre and Ruturaj Gaikwad stitched a 96-run stand for the 2nd wicket. Interestingly, Gaikwad had the least contribution in it and returned to the pavillion after scoring just 28 (22).
The knock has come at a crucial time because there were chatters whether his demotion might have been the reason behind his duck in the first match. For the unversed, Mhatre opened the innings for CSK in IPL 2025, but was demoted to No.3 to allow Sanju Samson open the innings.
Ayush Mhatre single-handedly carried the side and put them at a respectable total. Talking about the ongoing match, at the time of writing this article, CSK are 130/4 after 13.4 overs.
