Babar Azam was noticeably slow with the bat, and Steve Smith believed that keeping him off strike was the best option for Sydney Sixers to maximise their run flow. Opening the innings alongside Steve Smith, Babar was dismissed by Xavier Bartlett in the second over, leaving Sydney Sixers struggling at 21/1.

Looking at the bigger picture, Babar Azam currently has a strike rate of just 104.12 in the BBL, with an average of 25.25. Although he has registered two half-centuries in his 10 innings, both knocks were on the slower side.
One came against Melbourne Renegades, where he scored 58 off 46 balls, and the other against Sydney Thunder, where he made 58 off 42 deliveries. These innings have not met the fast-paced standards expected in a T20 league like the BBL. Nevertheless, his tally of 202 runs from 10 matches remains a statistic he will find hard to ignore in the coming days.
