The Royal Challengers Bengaluru crushed the Punjab Kings at Dharamsala on Sunday afternoon to confirm their seat in the IPL 2026 playoffs with a 23-run win. In the process, they also ended PBKS' playoff dreams, as the hosts now have to depend on other results to stand a chance of playing the knockouts.

For weeks ahead of the match, PBKS' social media shenanigans were infamously making rounds around the internet, when they were winning. They famously also took a jibe at RCB when the times were good, and the RCB social media admin did not hold back after winning, almost ending the Kings' playoff chances.

RCB 'cooks' PBKS social media

Earlier in the season, when PBKS faced the Rajasthan Royals on April 28 in Mullanpur, they had infamously tweeted their score line of 49/1 (4.3 overs) β€” a very odd score to tweet. But this was a dig at RCB's 49 all-out record against the Kolkata Knight Riders.

On the night before that, RCB had bowled out DC for 75 runs in Delhi, failing to bundle them under 49 runs, despite the score being 8/6 in 3.5 overs.

As Bhuvneshwar Kumar helped RCB reduce PBKS for 49/3 in the powerplay in Dharamsala, the Royal Challengers' admin hit back at PBKS by tweeting that score. Further, after winning the match, they made another tweet, reminding the IPL 2026 finalists about what not to do on social media, saying, "Masterclass- What not to tweet 101."

Fans lost their cool and enjoyed this timely banter from RCB and had fun on the evening, while celebrating their qualification.

RCB eye historic second title

The RCB have now become the first team of IPL 2026 to reach the playoffs and still have a match remaining. Currently, they are comfortably seated at the top of the table with 18 points in 13 matches, winning 9 and losing 4 and also have the best net run-rate.

With a match to be played in Hyderabad against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, they can go up to 20 points in the league phase and seal a top-2 finish. This will ensure that they play Qualifier 1 and have two shots at making it to the final.

If they go on to lift the trophy for the second season in a row, they will join CSK and MI as only the third team to successfully defend an IPL title.

PBKS on the brink of crashing out of IPL 2026

Heading into the IPL 2026, PBKS was one of the favourites to at least make it to the knockout stages of the competition. With a settled squad from last season, they did not make too many changes in their roster as well.

Then, they started the season without a loss in the first half of the league phase, looking well-poised to make it to the playoffs. However, now they have lost 6 matches in a row, and their fate is out of their hands. Even if they win the final league match against LSG, they are not guaranteed a spot in the next stage of the competition.
