Sri Lanka vs West Indies - (Source: AFP)
The West Indies will host Sri Lanka in the second of their three-match ODI series at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica, on June 7 at 1 AM (IST), as they look to level the series following a 41-run loss in the series opener.
During the first match, in what is an important series for teams to go a step closer to automatic qualification for the World Cup 2027, Sri Lanka scored 303/7 in 50 overs. Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis got 79(103) and 72(62), respectively, alongside some cameos. Jayden Seales, Matthew Forde and Roston Chase picked two wickets each.
In response, several West Indies batters got starts, but apart from Shai Hope's 56(66), nobody crossed the fifty-run mark as they were bundled for 262. Dushmantha Chameera picked 4/67 as the leader of the bowling attack to take the lead in the series.
As the sides face off at the same venue again, we take a look at what to expect from the match.

WI vs SL player battles
Shai Hope vs Wanindu Hasaranga
Captain Shai Hope is West Indies’ best batter, who leads the team from the front, especially in this format. He knows how to build the innings in ODIs and stick to one end. In the middle overs, he will come up against SL’s biggest wicket-taker, Wanindu Hasaranga, who is well rested after his hamstring injury.
Leg-spinners have dismissed Hope in 11 ODI innings, but he has scored 741 runs at an average of 66.50 in ODIs at a low strike rate of 76.

Pathum Nissanka vs Jayden Seales
Pathum Nissanka scored 79 in the first ODI and is closing in on the milestone of 3000 ODI runs. His form is instrumental in the Lankans sealing the series, and more often than not, he has managed to deliver. He will face the new ball spell from Jayden Seales, who can extract extra bounce from hard lengths and can be lethal early on in the innings.
Nissanka has been dismissed inside an ODI powerplay in 32 of his 75 innings, and an early wicket could put WI in front.
Kusal Mendis vs Gudakesh Motie
Much like Hope, the Sri Lankan captain, Kusal Mendis is the linchpin of this batting line-up. He can hold the innings together, and more importantly, can score at high strike rates. He can be the difference between SL scoring par and a par+20 score.
In the middle overs, he faces the challenge of Gudakesh Motie, who has been in great form since the T20 World Cup. Mendis has been dismissed once by Motie in ODIs, while he has scored 44(29) against him. This will be another battle to watch out for.

The pacers dominate here, with 69.24 per cent of wickets, and as the match progresses, it gets easier to bat; hence, the team winning the toss would prefer bowling first.
