Zimbabwe T20I Squad Announced For Namibia Tri Series; Key Player Ruled Out

In a recent development, the Zimbabwe cricket team have announced their squad for the upcoming T20I tri-series against Namibia and South Africa. 

The exclusive series, which is set to be played from August 28 in Windhoek, will see each team face the other twice before the Final is played on September 6. Significantly, veteran all-rounder Sikandar Raza is set to lead the side in the tournament.

After a humiliating defeat against India, led by Sikandar Raza, the team have now opted for an almost unchanged squad, with experienced players in both the batting and bowling departments. Brian Bennett, Ryan Burl and Brad Evans, alongside Tadiwanashe Marumani, will be part of the experienced setup.

Innocent Kaia has been named in the squad again even after failing to find a place in the playing XI over the last year. Although he has 19 T20I appearances under his belt, scoring 290 runs at an average of 15.26, he remains a backup option in Zimbabwe's T20I setup, particularly in the top and middle order.

In an interesting development, spinner Graeme Cremer has returned to the national setup after recovering from a left-arm injury that kept him out of the home series against Bangladesh and India. 

Another fresh face, Kundai Matigimu, who has played just one Test for Zimbabwe, has also been included in the 15-player squad alongside pace-bowling sensations Blessing Muzarabani, Newman Nyamhuri and Tafadzwa Tsiga.

Richard Ngarava misses out on the Namibia Tri-Series

Unfortunately, senior pacer Richard Ngarava will miss the series as he continues his recovery from a lower-back issue. He will remain under the supervision of the Zimbabwe cricket medical team during his rehabilitation. 

Ngarava was sidelined in March 2026 during the T20 World Cup match against South Africa after aggravating his lower-back strain. He subsequently underwent rehabilitation before returning for the series against India, where he picked up two wickets from two matches.

After hosting India for the T20I series, Ngarava's recovery from his chronic back strain was delayed, and he will miss the upcoming series alongside Tanaka Chivanga, who has also undergone surgery after sustaining an Achilles tendon injury during practice.

How is the Zimbabwe side expected to perform in Namibia?

The Chevrons' key assets for the upcoming tri-series against Namibia and South Africa are expected to be Brian Bennett and Sikandar Raza in the batting order, while Tadiwanashe Marumani has also made valuable contributions in recent times. Ryan Burl and Brendan Taylor add further experience to Zimbabwe's batting lineup.

The bowling attack will be led by Brad Evans and Blessing Muzarabani, with Raza also providing an all-round option. Graeme Cremer, who has taken five wickets in six matches over the last twelve months, will also be a player to watch under Namibian conditions.

In Namibia, though, Zimbabwe have a decent record. They have played 11 T20Is there and won six of them. Against South Africa, however, Zimbabwe have a very poor record, having failed to win any of the nine T20Is they have played against them. Namibia have also dominated Zimbabwe, winning eight of the 15 T20Is they contested the Chevrons in.

Therefore, Sikandar Raza's side will need to regroup and counter the hosts in their own conditions if they want to make a strong statement with their experienced squad. Zimbabwe will begin their campaign on August 29 against South Africa, followed by a match against Namibia on August 31.
