The build-up to the Women’s Premier League 2027 is officially underway, and the BCCI have officially locked in the date and venue for the player auction. Earlier in September, the teams had confirmed their retentions and releases to get their preparations underway.
This will be the first mini auction of the cycle, after the teams completely shuffled last year in a mega auction in New Delhi. After two WPL auctions in Mumbai, followed by one each in Bengaluru and New Delhi, the event will remain in India for 2027.
WPL 2027 mini auction in Kochi
On Monday evening, the BCCI took to the official WPL Twitter/X page to announce the WPL 2026 auction. The event will take place in Kochi on October 28 at 5:30 PM (IST).
Following the official retentions and releases, 27 spots are up for grabs and 146 players will go under the hammer, including some exciting domestic and overseas names in the list.
Two players priced at 50L; four at 40L
The 146 registered players to be auctioned on the evening of October 28 will have a total of 22 Indian capped players and 14 capped overseas players. Among the 110 uncapped names will be 97 Indians and 13 overseas to complete the auction pool.
The players are priced from INR 10 lakh to INR 50 lakh. Two overseas players have registered for the highest price, while INR 40 lakh is the highest registered price for two Indians. The following are some of the notable names up for grabs.
- Sophia Dunkley - INR 50 lakh
- Sophie Molineux - INR 50 lakh
- G. Kamalini - INR 40 lakh
- Kiran Navgire - INR 40 lakh
- Heather Graham - INR 40 lakh
- Jess Jonassen - INR 40 lakh
The 18-year-old G Kamalini, who was with the Mumbai Indians previously was one of the shock releases, considering she recently got capped by the Indian team. The wicketkeeper batter is considered a great future prospect and could fetch a lot of interest in the auction.
Apart from the aforementioned names, WPL winner with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Grave Harris, Sneh Rana and Asha Shobhana will be the ones to watch out for.
