Will Pucovski’s case has to be the one of the most unfortunate ones, not only in Australia but in the whole cricketing fraternity.
Introduced to the world as the next best thing in Australian cricket, the right-handed opener had to retire at a tender age of 27 years on medical advice after facing 16 injuries, causing serious concussions in his brain.
After featuring in one Test match and representing Victoria in 36 FC matches and 14 List-A matches, scoring over 2500 professional runs, his career as a cricketer came to an end in April 2025.
Will Pucovski to take legal measures against former school
As per a report by the Herald Sun, Will Pucovski, via his lawyer, has filed a legal case against his former school, Brighton Grammar, for allegedly mishandling a football incident back in 2014.
According to Pucovski’s legal team, he had a concussion when he was hit on the head while playing football at his former school, which breached its duty of care by allowing him to return to training minutes after the shocking hit.
Allegedly, this was the 28-year-old batter’s first of the 16 head injuries, which have led to concussion episodes.

“Pucovski was only 16 when he was first knocked out in a school footy training session when he was slung to the ground in a tackle,” as claimed by the former cricketer’s lawyer, as quoted by Code Sports.
“Pucovski was knocked unconscious in the blow, but was permitted to continue training instead of receiving appropriate medical care. His condition worsened considerably the next day when Pucovski suffered blurred vision at a school gym session before being admitted to hospital later that week.”

Coming to the Australian setup in 2017 as a 19-year-old, Will Pucovski shook the world by storm as a promising young batter.
Soon, he made the limelight when he slammed a 255 against South Australia, becoming the eighth Australian batter to notch a Sheffield Shield double hundred before the age of 21.
The stylish batter was fast-tracked to the Test side after he slammed back-to-back double hundreds in 2021 as he scored a half-century against India on debut. However, Pucovski has bittersweet memories of that match as well, as he left the field with a shoulder dislocation.
That said, he got hit in the head during a warm-up fixture ahead of the 2020–21 BGT series by India’s Kartik Tyagi, although he made his Test debut despite having a concussion episode.
Notably, the last nail in the coffin was two years back, during a Sheffield Shield fixture, when the right-handed opener was hit on the helmet by a bouncer from Tasmanian fast bowler Riley Meredith.
What is Will Pucovski upto now?
Retired from cricket on medical advice, the 28-year-old Will Pucovski has gotten into coaching and broadcasting, most recently seen commentating during Australia’s Test series against Bangladesh earlier this month.
However, despite retiring from the sport nearly two years ago, he is still recovering from the series of concussions, but he wants to be involved in cricket in whatever capacity.
