Indian fast bowler Arshdeep Singh suffered a nasty shoulder injury in the fourth T20I of the series against West Indies earlier this week. The BCCI has since added seasoned paceman Bhuvneshwar Kumar to the squad for the impending series-decider.
Notably, Arshdeep can still participate in the match if the T20 veteran manages to attain full recovery in time. On Friday, October 16, India’s bowling coach Morne Morkel dropped a major update regarding the availability of the injured speedster.
Morne Morkel hints Arshdeep Singh’s return for IND vs WI 5th T20I
While speaking with the reporters a day before the fifth T20I in Bengaluru, Indian bowling coach Morne Morkel hinted about the availability of Arshdeep Singh for the all-important series-decider on October 17.
The former South African cricketer said that no Indian player, including injured Arshdeep, has been ruled out of the squad yet. Moreover, Morkel added that a final decision regarding Singh’s availability will be taken by the Indian team management before the fifth T20I match.
Morne Morkel said “No one is ruled out, we will see tomorrow.”
Earlier this week, Indian wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson also gave an important update regarding the injured fast bowler. While Samson did not confirm about the speedster’s availability, he said that the 27-year-old is receiving the necessary care from the Indian medical team.
As of now, it remains to be seen if Arshdeep attains full recovery before the all-important fifth T20I of the series between India and West Indies on October 17 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
The fast bowler is also scheduled to tour New Zealand later this month as part of Team India squad for a crucial T20I series against the hosts.
What happened to Arshdeep Singh in fourth T20I?
Arshdeep Singh leaked 52 runs off his four overs against the West Indies in the high-scoring fourth T20I of the series earlier this week in Hyderabad.
Batting at number 10 for India, the cricketer was also struck on his shoulder by a high-pace delivery from West Indies fast bowler Shamar Joseph. The nasty blow prompted Arshdeep to ‘retire’ himself off the crease, allowing the visitors to walk away with a comfortable 24-run win to bring the five-match series to levelling terms.
Shamar has since coped much criticism from Indian fans and experts, with former cricketer Shreevats Goswami also calling out the visiting speedster for ‘deliberately’ trying to injure the tailender.
