The T20 World Cup 2026 is just three days old, and already we have witnessed some spectacular catches, and the latest entrant in this elite group is Zimbabwe’s Brian Bennett. The fielder plucked a stunner against the UAE side on the last ball of the innings to grab the limelight.

Known for his athleticism, Bennett showcased his class as Nadeem Khan miscued a shot and the Zimbabwe player took an unreal catch and here is how it went.

Bennett takes unreal catch to defy laws of physics

The Zimbabwe bowler delivered a back-of-a-length ball outside the off, and it was the last ball of the Oman innings. It was a slower ball as Nadeem miscued his attempted slog and Brian Bennett was ready for the catch at deep mid wicket.

The ball was travelling quickly as the fielder timed his run to perfection as he moved towards his right and flew in the air to pluck a stunner out of nowhere to end the Oman innings. He lost his balance, but managed to keep the ball in his hands as he took one of the best catches of the tournament.

It was hailed as a superhuman effort as the ball was moving at a rapid pace and Bennett had to time his leap to perfection.

Other catch of the tournament contenders

Bennett’s superman efforts will surely be nominated for the catch of the tournament, and while he does deserve praise for a herculean grab, there are other prominent contenders who could challenge him for the title.

On the opening day, West Indian fielder Shimron Hetmyer took the early catch of the T20 World Cup as he dismissed Scotland’s George Munsey with a stunner. The southpaw miscued his half-attempted pull shot as Hetmyer, standing at deep square leg, came charging in and leaped to his right to grab a world-class catch.

On the same day, Pakistan fielders, Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi were involved in a brilliant relay catch against the Netherlands. Dutch batter, Michael Levitt, miscued a lofted shot as the ball sailed towards the long-off region.

Babar Azam was standing there as he grabbed the ball, but the momentum took him past the ropes as he threw the ball in the air, and Shaheen came in quickly to grab the ball as both players showed brilliant teamwork.

How Zimbabwe decimated Oman batters in T20 World Cup

Against Oman, the Sikandar Raza-led team opted to bowl first, and the decision paid off as Omana lost 5 wickets for just 27 runs. However, the middle-order batters resurrected the innings as Vinayak Shukla scored a handy 28 off 21 balls.

Nadeem Khan also scored 18 runs, but there was not much support from the other end as the Asian side got bundled out for a mere 103.

This was lowest innings Total vs Zimbabwe in T20 World Cups (103), while the previous one was 116/9 by the UAE team in 2014. The Chevrons showcased their class and decimated the struggling Oman batters with ease.
