UAE batter Muhammad Arfan was out in an unusual manner during the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 match between Afghanistan and the United Arab Emirates. The match is being played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Monday, February 16. 

Not only was the dismissal surprising, but it also marked a historic moment for Afghanistan’s star all-rounder Rashid Khan as he completed 700 wickets in T20 cricket.

The incident happened during the 16th over of the UAE innings. At that time, Rashid Khan came on to bowl. On the third ball of the over, he bowled a full delivery aimed around the middle and leg stump.

Notably, Muhammad Arfan tried to play a reverse sweep shot. However, he suddenly changed his stance and looked uncomfortable as the ball came towards him. Because of this, he missed the ball completely. The ball hit his back pad and rolled away towards backward point.

But that was not the end of it. While trying to complete his shot, Arfan lost his balance. As he followed through with a full swing of his bat, he accidentally hit the stumps behind him. As a result, the bails came off, and he was given out hit wicket.

This was a big blow for UAE, as they lost their sixth wicket at an important stage of the innings.

Rashid Khan creates history in T20 cricket

Although the dismissal looked unlucky for Arfan, it turned out to be a very special moment for Rashid Khan. With this wicket, he reached a massive milestone in his career.

It is important to note that Rashid Khan completed 700 wickets in T20 cricket. In fact, he became the first player ever to reach 700 wickets in the T20 format.Therefore, while the wicket came in an unusual way, it added another golden chapter to Rashid Khan’s already impressive career.

Afghanistan vs UAE match summary

Talking about the match, Afghanistan won the toss and decided to bowl first. This decision worked in their favor right from the beginning.

In the very first over, Azmatullah Omarzai dismissed Aryansh Sharma for a duck. Soon after, in the next over, Muhammad Waseem was also sent back to the pavilion after scoring just 10 runs. Because of these early wickets, UAE came under pressure quickly.

However, Alishan Sharafu played a steady innings and scored a valuable 40 runs off 31 balls. Later on, Sohaib Khan played an impressive knock of 67 runs from 48 balls, helping UAE recover and build their total.

Meanwhile, Azmatullah Omarzai continued to shine with the ball. In the 15th over, he removed Harshit Kaushik and Syed Haider Wasi Shah. Shortly after, he also dismissed the in-form Sohaib Khan for 60 runs off 48 balls, which slowed down UAE’s progress once again.

At the time of writing, UAE were 152 for seven, trying to finish strongly despite losing regular wickets.
