The Sanju Samson to CSK trade deal has been one of the shrewdest business moves in the history of the IPL, and the batter has also justified the move by becoming CSK’s best batter in IPL 2026. However, sometimes, even the best batter makes a howler, and Samson did it against the SRH side.

Samson, being a wicket-keeper, is always up to the mark when it comes to taking DRS, but in the IPL 2026 match between CSK and SRH at Chepauk, the Chennai opener made a blunder and wasted a review for his side.

Sanju Samson's brainfade moment vs SRH

In the CSK Vs SRH IPL match, the Super Kings elected to bat first, and the decision paid off immediately as Samson started on an aggressive note. On the first ball of the match, he smacked Nitish Reddy for a huge six, and also slammed two boundaries in the same over.

The carnage continued in the next over as the CSK opener registered three back-to-back boundaries to quickly move to 27. This is when Pat Cummins introduced himself into the attack, and the move paid off as Samson nicked one to the keeper, and the umpire gave him out.

There was a clear sound of an edge, but despite that, Samson was adamant as he challenged the umpire by taking the DRS. The replays clearly suggested that there was a spike when the ball passed the bat, and the original decision stood tall as the right-handed batter had to walk back to the pavilion.

The Kerala batter wasted a review early in the innings, and that too, when there was a clear edge.

Why Samson's decision was the 'worst review' of IPL 2026

It wasn’t like someone else had edged the ball, and Samson had to decide regarding the DRS. The CSK opener was the one who nicked it, and he already knew that Pat Cummins had his wicket.

The right-handed player took the DRS, and wasted it as the decision was in favour of the bowling team. That review could have been saved for the latter part of the CSK innings, but now CSK are left with just one review for the remainder of their batting.

Samson's IPL 2026 journey at a glance

Samson failed in the initial few IPL 2026 matches, and the critics were quick to criticise him for his poor performances. However, the batter bounced back with a resounding hundred against the Delhi Capitals.

Since then, there has been no looking back as Samson has become an integral part of the CSK lineup, and has been their best batter.

In the ongoing season, the World Cup winner has amassed 450 runs in 12 matches, with an average of 50, and a strike rate of 164. His campaign includes a solitary fifty, and two stellar hundreds vs DC, and Mumbai Indians.

It is due to his exemplary performance that the Super Kings are still alive in the IPL 2026 playoffs race.
