There is no doubt that Hardik Pandya is becoming more popular with each passing day. On Thursday, fans got to see just how much he is admired.
During the match between India and Namibia in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, a surprising moment took place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
Virat Kohli fan breaches security
In the middle of the game, a fan suddenly broke through security and ran onto the field. Interestingly, the fan was wearing a Virat Kohli jersey but rushed straight toward Hardik Pandya. The unexpected incident shocked both players and spectators for a few moments. However, security officials quickly stepped in and removed the fan from the ground.
Thankfully, Pandya remained calm throughout the situation. As a result, the match continued without any major delay. Although the security breach created a dramatic scene, it did not affect the overall flow of the game.
Hardik Pandya shines against Namibia
Apart from the on-field interruption, it was truly a memorable night for Hardik Pandya. Not only did he perform brilliantly with the bat, but he also contributed with the ball. He smashed a quick 52 runs off just 28 balls, hitting four boundaries and four sixes. His powerful and stylish batting entertained the crowd and helped India build a strong total.
In addition, Pandya picked up two important wickets while bowling. Because of his outstanding all-round performance, he was named Player of the Match. Clearly, it was a night to remember for the Indian all-rounder.
India’s explosive batting performance
Earlier in the match, Namibia won the toss and chose to bowl first. Since Abhishek Sharma was unavailable, Sanju Samson opened the innings for India. Making his T20 World Cup debut, Samson made an immediate impact by scoring a quick 22 runs off just 8 balls. However, he was soon dismissed by Ben Shikongo.
On the other hand, Ishan Kishan played an explosive innings. He scored a stunning 61 runs off only 24 balls, hitting six fours and five sixes. Because of his aggressive batting, India crossed the 100-run mark in just 6.5 overs.
Later, Kishan added 79 runs for the second wicket with Tilak Varma, who scored 25 runs. However, Namibia fought back as their captain Gerhard Erasmus and Bernard Scholtz took quick wickets to slow India down.
Even then, Pandya and Shivam Dube built an important 81-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Although India lost five wickets in the final two overs, they still managed to post a massive total of 209/9 in 20 overs.
Namibia’s struggle against India
While chasing 210 runs, Namibia started positively as Louren Steenkamp and Jan Frylinck added 33 quick runs.
However, once the Indian spinners came into action, especially Varun Chakaravarthy, the momentum shifted completely. Notably, Chakaravarthy bowled brilliantly and took three wickets for just seven runs in two overs. As a result, Namibia were bowled out for just 116 runs in 18.2 overs.
In the end, India secured a comfortable 93-run victory and returned to the top of Group A in the T20 World Cup 2026.
